@De_Kyros @stats_feed I doubt 70 years of profit was lost in one year.. I think they will loose significantly more if they don’t double down on their EV investments

Honda posted its first net loss since 1955. Let that sit. Seventy years of never going red. Through oil crises, through recessions, through the entire rise and fall of Japanese economic dominance. And now, in 2026, a ¥403 billion loss because they bet wrong on EVs. The writedown is the dagger. ¥1.6 trillion. Ten billion dollars of "we thought electric was the future and we were right about the future but wrong about the timing, the cost, and our own ability to compete." That's not a loss. That's an amputation. They took what would have been a 7.4 billion profit, a celebration of hybrid wisdom and steady management, and torched it on the altar of electrification. Honda was the cautious one. The company that perfected the internal combustion engine, that made reliability a religion, that watched Toyota and Tesla fight for EV headlines while selling Civics to people who just wanted to get to work. They waited. They studied. They finally jumped, and the water was shallower than it looked. The EV market in 2026 isn't what the PowerPoints promised. Demand softened. Prices dropped. Chinese manufacturers flooded the zone with cheaper, faster options. Honda's e:Ny1 and Prologue landed with the enthusiasm of a homework assignment. The infrastructure didn't keep pace. The consumers didn't convert. The investment became a weight. Seventy years of profit. Gone in a fiscal year because the board decided they couldn't afford to miss the revolution, then missed anyway. The hybrid era was Honda's kingdom. They ruled it quietly, efficiently, without flash. The EV era is someone else's story. And Honda is now writing the most expensive footnote. Back to the drawing board. Or back to what worked. The engine still hums. The question is whether anyone's still listening.

🇯🇵 For the first time since 1955, Honda has reported a net loss. • ¥403.3 billion loss (~$2.6 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 2026 • Took a massive ¥1.6 trillion (~$10 billion) writedown on its EV investments • This wiped out what would have been a solid ~$7.4 billion profit

@baaslaunch @the_transit_guy Rail needs to be combined with a strategy to urbanize and densify areas around the stations. This has been successful many places around the world and may be the only way to combat endless sprawl..

Consider that maybe the regions that are succeeding... ...are not the ones missing something important. I love high-speed rail. China, Japan, Taiwan, France, Spain... Great systems connecting walkable cities. But rail doesn't work in sprawling metroplexes where cars rule. Texas will have fleets of safe, cheap, fast, efficient self driving cars multiplying roadway capacity far sooner than significant rail mileage can be built. If we could go back in time 40 years I would support high-speed rail for Texas. But for today and tomorrow... Don't see it.

@Ajarncom I saw that, but unless you really, really enjoy your job that’s not really a life to be lived imo. I agree it’s a decent salary, but even running a simple business like this has it’s costs and the job isn’t finished when he leaves your garden.

We've got a guy in to chop down a couple of big trees in the garden. We've used him a number of times and my word, along with his wife, the pair of them seriously know how to put in a day's work. He charges 4,000 baht a day and told me he's got so much work and such a long queue of customers, he's having to work every day. 120K a month. There's decent money to be made if you're willing to graft. A few power tools, a rusty old pick-up truck, and let word of mouth do all your marketing legwork.

Thailand just made a massive geopolitical move and hardly anyone here is talking about it. They are planning a 28 billion dollar land bridge to bypass the Strait of Malacca. Think about what that means for a second. Right now about a quarter of the world’s trade moves through that one chokepoint. If something disrupts it, everything feels it. Thailand wants to change that. They are connecting the Indian Ocean to the Pacific by land, moving cargo across their country instead of forcing ships through the strait. That cuts days off shipping times and lowers costs. This puts Thailand right in the middle of global trade in a way we have not seen before. And it raises some real questions. Who is backing this financially? Who benefits the most if traffic shifts away from Malacca? What happens to the current balance of power in that region? This is not just an infrastructure story. It is a shift in how goods move around the world and who controls that movement. Most people will scroll right past this. They should not.

During 2023-2024 heatwaves in Thailand, many Thai provinces got new record highest temperatures, e.g., Tak 44.6°C in 2023, Lampang 44.3°C in 2024. In April 2024, 26 provinces recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C. / 🇹🇭 current mean temperature is already higher than 26°C.

🇹🇭 Thailand could become as hot as the Sahara by 2070. The country’s current mean annual temperature is about 26°, high enough to place it close to the danger zone. Climate projections suggest that by the end of the century, Thailand could cross 29°C threshold. Such conditions are currently found on only about 0.8% of the earth’s land surface, mostly in the Sahara.

Fikk sjokk i helgen. En jeg vet om som har tre voldtektsanklager mot seg fra før (frikjent men dog) og besøksforbud mot seg over lang tid dukket plutselig opp. Faen ta.
