Good to see @UG_Airlines keeping the London–Entebbe route moving using @flyethiopian 787s on wet lease. It seems a serious person is now in charge: prioritize reliability, protect the network, and buy time to fix operations. Not cheap, but far better than cancellations and loss of trust.

Over a decade ago at Uber, we were paying drivers across 40 countries. Their top ask: "Pay me faster." That stuck with me through Coinbase and Stripe, where I kept running into the same wall from different angles. Today, Latitude (@rtp) is launching out of stealth. We raised an $8M seed round in Jan 2025 and have been building quietly since then.

Argentina🇦🇷 is the posterchild for stablecoin adoption. But should it be? This year, hyperinflation has reduced and Trump offered Argentina a $20 billion lifeline to help Milei stabilize the peso. So if stablecoins are a lifeline from hyperinflation, what happens to stablecoin adoption when inflation goes away? We went to Argentina to find out. But when we realized we were asking the wrong question... The real story of Argentina involves long-standing distrust of government and the banks, and overbearing taxes that drive Argentinians to the informal economy. While stablecoin volumes in Argentina surpass $90 billion, Argentina still has over $200 billion in cash circulating in the country, and hidden under mattresses. It's the second-largest holder of US Dollar cash, behind the US itself. In this episode of Money Trails, presented by @StellarOrg, we explore why Argentines keep their money outside of the formal system, and why they are increasingly adopting stablecoins. Featuring @mbeaudroit, CEO of @belo_app. Watch the full episode here on X, or on YouTube - link in the post below ⬇️

Getting paid in stablecoins is a great step but it’s not the whole story. Ask yourself: why do you bank where you bank? The initial reason was probably mundane: location, recommendation, signup offer. But why do you stay? Because your checking account is connected to everything that matters. It’s the clearing layer of your financial life. Money flows in from payroll, refunds, and transfers, and flows out to rent, credit cards, Venmo, and investments etc. You don’t switch because that web of integrations is what keeps your financial life running smoothly. That’s why payroll in stablecoins (like Paxos x Toku’s USDG move) is a promising start, but not yet a full replacement. Would I switch today? No, my neobank wallet isn’t (yet) connected to all those things like my bank account is. For stablecoin wallets to compete, they need interoperability: ACH, direct debit, wires, bill pay, card top-ups, investments. In emerging markets, the trade-offs make sense; in the U.S., not yet. Still, it starts here. Once wallets match that level of connectivity, the center of gravity can shift, but well banked users need a compelling reason to switch. In the short term, the impact is greatest for users in emerging markets. Would you switch to stablecoin payroll?

EXCLUSIVE: Paxos, through an integration with Toku, will allow employees to be paid in USDG

great article from @notgwera on the stablecoin opportunity in the global south "Africa remains the most expensive region in the world for remittances, with fees as high as 8.5%, nearly triple the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal target of 3%. With over $95 billion in remittances flowing into the continent annually — and this number only growing... If even a third of Africa’s remittance flows shifted onto local-currency stablecoins, households could collectively save billions annually."

Dear All, I am shocked and devastated at the passing of my dear mother and best friend, Hon . Rhoda Kalema. She went to be with the Lord at 3 : 27 a.m. on Sunday , 3rd August 2025. Thank you for coming together as a nation to join us in celebrating her incredible life that has inspired many women, men , and youth , of whom several have followed in her footsteps. At the age of 96, her last duty on earth was doing what she loved most: inspiring people to love God and make the world a better place. She was celebrating 23 years of Scripture Union at their annual conference in Kiboga District, where she served as their first Member of Parliament. My mother was often referred to as “Mother of the Uganda Parliament” , having encouraged many women to join politics. On Saturday night, she developed acute pain in her abdomen after the conference and was taken to Kiboga Hospital , who then took her to Nsambya Hospital, where she was subsequently referred to her doctors in Nairobi Hospital. My husband Lawrence, son Tendo , and I met Maama in Kenya when we were returning from the International Primatological Society conference in Madagascar. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to be with my dear mother in her final days and support my sister, Dr . Veronica Kalema , to look after her in Nairobi Hospital. My mother still had one more task that was burning in her heart and almost completed : a biography about her dear husband, my father, Hon . William Wilberforce Kalema, who was a senior cabinet minister in the first government of President Obote after Uganda gained independence in 1962, and whose life was tragically cut short when he was murdered by President Idi Amin’s soldiers in 1972. My sister, Dr . Veronica Nakibule , and I have an obligation to launch the book soon to fulfill her last wish. Stay tuned! Thank you all so much for the condolence messages, bringing the comfort we need at this very trying time. I depended so much on my mother, even at 96 ! She never let age define what she could do in life, and inspired so many with her energy. Last week , we missed two functions we were going to attend together : the launch of Beverly Nambozo’s book “Feeling,” a poetry anthology celebrating iconic Ugandan women published by the Babishai Niwe Poetry Foundation and supported by the British Council, where we were both honored to be featured. On Saturday , we were going to attend the 30th celebration of FOWODE (Forum for Women in Democracy) , where Hon . Rhoda Kalema was delighted to give a speech, having received their first Award in 1996, which I so proudly attended when working as the first veterinary officer of Uganda Wildlife Authority , and who gave me the Tourism Award in 2024 for our work at Conservation Through Public Health. When I broke the news to Hon . Miria Matembe that Maama was very ill, she told me that a video was played about Hon . Rhoda Kalema on Saturday night , and prayed that God would heal her friend and mentor. This year , she was so proud to become a Canon of Mityana Diocese. Along with other family members , my husband and I attended the celebration in Kiboga , Bamusuuta Church of Uganda, which was truly special , with many people thanking her for her contribution towards the decades of development in the district. I didn’t realise it was the last big event celebrating her extraordinary life. They fondly referred to her heartwarming autobiography “My Life Is But a Weaving.” May dear Canon Hon . Rhoda Kalema rest in peace and power , knowing that her work on earth is done. Let us continue her rich legacy, as a family and as a nation of Uganda and beyond. @FOWODE_UGANDA @uwonet @acfode @FAWEUganda @budonian @BibleSocietyUg @ScriptureUnionU @TourismBoardUg @MTWAUganda @Parliament_Ug @miriamatembe @RebeccaKadagaUG @Winnie_Byanyima @CTPHuganda @ugwildlife @GCCoffee1 @ctph_camp
