It just occurred to me: in the Zcash Ironwood migration, you can't necessarily do it piecemeal. If you have 10 ZEC in just 1 note, you have to send it all to Ironwood at once, since you can't create new Orchard notes. So your ZEC balance amount will leak. That's all that will leak -- no name, no address. But the public can see that 10 ZEC migrated in one transaction between pools. Zcash usually shields the amount, but moving between pools like this leaks that information. It can't be tied to you, unless the lightwallet server you use captures your IP address when you send (or read) the transaction.
Ideally then, our wallets would allow breaking up notes into random amounts before Ironwood hits. Kinda late for that now though. :(
Short of that, like @zooko said in his excellent right up x.com/zooko/status/2…, be sure you use an anonymizing VPN when you migrate.

Recommendations for Zcashers for the Ironwood era, which begins tomorrow: 1. Don’t rush to migrate your funds out of Orchard right away—take your time. Know what you’re going to do before you start. ⤵️

@tuw888 Read it again.
On Bitcoin their interests conflict. Wall Street wants surveillance-friendly rails, cypherpunks want freedom money. On Zcash they want the same thing: functional privacy. A shielded pool works better with both of them in it.
Alignment of incentives != allegiance.

@colludingnode I used to love the "Bitcoin is for enemies" trope, but I never hear it anymore.

This is shocking. Even the least sophisticated Bitcoin wallets try to avoid address re-use... and yet this 🫠
Is the takeaway that 90% of people will use the least private option available to them?
orangesurf@OrangeSurfBTC
These days ~90% of bitcoin transactions send to previously used addresses. This proportion has been climbing for the last ~9 years.

4 days later.
I'm even more confident now that we will make it.
