The reality is surface ships that cannot defend against anti-ship ballistic missiles and powered hypersonic missiles are obsolete. Europe has no equivalent to the American SPY-6 radar which was designed to combat those threats. Germany has no other choice in the next 15 years.

In any case theres no rule saying the commodity must be globally priced. Gas isn't. If Europe wants energy security it needs to produce. They have the resources

One of the funniest (read: saddest) things to happen last year occurred at two separate events, one in May and one in October, where two German generals told me that long-range strike is not a procurement priority because the United States handles it within NATO. Having hundred of 300-1500kg payload missiles and thousand of 100-300kg drones is more important for deterrence in the same price anvelope

Europe has its own satellite navigation (Galileo), its own defence programme (75 active projects) and is building its own rapid deployment force. The "helpless Europe" story was never about defence.
