Ending or curtailing birthright citizenship would imperil the rights of every natural-born American citizen, regardless of ancestry, says the Cato Institute’s @David_J_Bier.

"Chief Justice Roberts had the line of the morning when he said, ‘It's a new world, but it's the same Constitution.' That really does sum up why the government's policy-based arguments had no bearing on the constitutional question,” says Cato’s @Thomas_A_Berry, commenting on the birthright citizenship SCOTUS case.

Remember the largely blind, elderly genocide survivor from Myanmar, Mr. Shah Alam, whom immigration officers picked up and then dumped on the street near a CLOSED cafe in Buffalo in the middle of the winter? Mr. Shah Alam died trying to get home, and the medical examiner has found that he perished of dehydration and hypothermia. Immigration agents never bothered to call his family. I'm sure they didn't intend for him to die, but the incident speaks to the casual disregard they show for the lives and dignity of those they deal with. Having covered the Rohingya genocide, I think of this man who survived so much, then is admitted to America -- and perishes because immigration agents can't be bothered to make a call. nytimes.com/2026/04/01/nyr…

@SloeGymFizz @LizziePFletcher Voting fraud is not rampant by any stretch of the imagination.

@LizziePFletcher They will still be allowed. The order was for universal mail in for no reason. Fraud is rampant.

Disabled people vote by mail.
Seniors vote by mail.
Military personnel overseas vote by mail.
Finally, Donald Trump votes by mail.

and yet the refrain among so many Wisconsin Republicans is “don’t Minnesota my Wisconsin” 🤔
Sam Richards@MinneapoliSam
Minnesota wins again. Quality of life and affordability metrics top the chart-- all nine measured beat the national average.

Cato scholars contend that the Supreme Court should affirm birthright citizenship. The Fourteenth Amendment is clear.
Cato has filed an amicus brief, explaining how and why President Trump’s executive order contravenes the Fourteenth Amendment.

The USPS has lost $5–$10 billion a year for over a decade. Falling mail volumes and high labor costs mean half-measures won’t fix it. Congress should close little-used post offices, reduce delivery frequency, and move towards privatization, says Cato’s @CatoEdwards.
