genuinely crazy that Ronan Farrow, the (alleged) lovechild of Mia Farrow and Frank Sinatra (Mia Farrow's ex-husband Woody Allen is on the birth certificate as his father🤣😭) is probably the best investigative journalist of our era

(🧵1/11) For the past year and a half, I've been investigating OpenAI and Sam Altman for @NewYorker. With my coauthor @andrewmarantz, I reviewed never-before-disclosed internal memos, obtained 200+ pages of documents related to a close colleague, including extensive private notes, and interviewed more than 100 people. OpenAI was founded on the premise that A.I. could be the most dangerous invention in human history—and that its C.E.O. would need to be a person of uncommon integrity. We lay out the most detailed account yet of why Altman was ousted out by board members and executives who came to believe he lacked that integrity, and ask: were they right to allege that he couldn't be trusted? A thread on some of of our findings:

NEW: Over $50,000 has been raised for a Domino’s delivery driver who went out of his way to get his customer's Diet Coke when he realized that Domino's was out. 68-year-old Dan Simpson of Boise, Idaho has gone viral for his kind act. "[Dan] had stopped at the store himself to pick up Diet Coke for us. On a busy Friday night. During deliveries. Completely out of his own time and effort," the customers said on GoFundMe. "[Dan's] been working at Domino’s as a second job for 14 years… and he’s retiring in just a few weeks..." About $50,000 has been raised for Dan so far. Amazing. Video: katey_93 / tt.

Don't worry, water is on its way! Now that pipes are no longer freezing at night, our plumbers have begun turning on every fountain for the year--going site-by-site to every fountain across the city. All drinking fountains will be in operation by Memorial Day.

Hey @NYCMayor @ZohranKMamdani I am once again here to bring an issue. ran 20 miles in the west side and there wasn’t 1 water fountain opened. I almost died of dehydration. I also saw a couple of other people trying to also get water and they couldn’t. I know this is niche but 🙏🏽

The @NationalMallNPS is so amazing when the sun goes down. Last night was perfect weather. Yes it’s full of tourists (that’s a really good thing BTW we need lots more) but I’m always surprised that so many locals don’t visit the Mall more often; it really is a special place.

It’s 86° in DC and the water fountains are still off under the winter policy. People shouldn’t have to pay $4 for a tiny plastic bottle to run/walk the National Mall. Turn them on, @NationalMallNPS @MayorBowser Thank you for your attention to this matter.

A new company won a 10-year contract to operate the eight food kiosks along the National Mall starting May 1st, and they've applied for a liquor license at all of them. I didn't realize that the current operator, Guest Services, has already been selling cheap booze.

This food truck driver said “they’re getting rid of the bike lane anyway” when I asked him to move. I cannot emphasize how much cars should be banned from the Mall, at minimum during Cherry Blossom Season

Modern city infrastructure often falls apart within a single lifetime. Yet the water at the Tipón archaeological site in Peru has been flowing through these exact stone channels for over 500 years. The Incas built a self-sustaining hydraulic network without a single electric pump, and we still aren't entirely sure how they mapped the underground springs with such flawless precision.

Sophisticated drones attacked the US base where we store the nuclear bombers… The drones: * Had non-commercial signals * Were resistant to jamming * Came in waves of 12-15 * Swept over sensitive areas of the base * Had long range control links * Were more advanced than anything seen in Ukraine (Russian drones) * Beyond Iranian capabilities Over the multiple days of incursion, local residents heard explosions which Barksdale claimed was “weapons testing” This is the second base incursion of a sensitive site IN THE US in the last 2 weeks.
Ari Schulman@AriSchulman

This should be the biggest story in the country right now. Barksdale is the HQ for our B52 nuclear bombers, it's where Bush sheltered on 9/11, and the drones are reported as "far more sophisticated than anything seen in Ukraine ... and well beyond Iranian capabilities."
