I can’t believe the reaction to this tweet. Young people are fighting for their right to cheat.

Even when they go abroad for master's degrees, they do the same.
Cheating is embedded in the system of an average Nigerian.
These are the same people who would say “first class in private university is 2:2 in public universities.”

Go on LinkedIn and search for Devops Engineers who have the roles you wish you had. They are getting headhunted, and there’s something about them.
You’d find similarities in their profiles. Take note of them and create a plan to build your own profile to have similar features. By profile I don’t mean editing your LinkedIn page.
You can reach out to them and ask questions.
I am not a Devops Engineer, so my experience or strategy may not map 1:1.
However, the general principles hold.
In any population, a subset outperforms or outshines the rest. If you can identify what makes them different, acquire those traits, you can get similar results so long as the underlying rules don’t change.

every single trade i made for years i was trying to retire on. i'd enter a position with 30-40% of my account and a number in my head: "if this hits $4m i'm out." anything less wasn't worth it. so i'd ride a 3x up. then watch it round trip. because a 3x didn't get me to my number, and selling early "wasn't worth it." did this an embarrassing number of times before it clicked. a 3x banked is rocket fuel for the next one.

I remember when we wanted to build our algo trading engine, we were asked to give an estimate of when we could have it ready. I told them a minimum of 3 to 6 months. The other developer looked me deep in the eyes and said a maximum of 3 weeks. I told him he was being disillusioned by AI and having a false sense of competency. This was someone who had already spent a couple of months on the project before I joined. I checked the codebase and it was full of AI slop. Had to jettison it and come up with proper planning. I made sure we didn’t write a single line of code for the first month until we read the entire documentation, devised the system design, PRD, and TDD (learnt this from you). Eventually, he was sacked the following month as he didn’t pass his probation. The same project took the entire duration of my probation (six months), passed conformance tests with market regulators, and is now actively running, trading, and earning us money.
I remember reaching out to you for advice and reading many of the textbooks you recommended. Countless meetings with stakeholders to understand requirements.
This whole ongoing conversation brought back that memory.

I know reading a book is hard, but try to read The Mythical Man Month: Essays on Software Engineering and A Philosophy of Software Design.
The reason we’re saying you can’t build Jumia in 2 weeks is not because of your skills, abilities or the capability of any AI model. This thing is engineering and there is a PROCESS. You also need enormous domain knowledge.
Thinking in implementation details as the first step to a system design challenge shows you lack software engineering fundamentals.
Just read those books, and you’ll understand why you’re wrong.
