@KareemRifai This might sound crazy, but folks can disagree strongly on important topics and still work together toward a common goal In fact, the reason the GOP keeps winning and the democrats keep losing, is because the former has mastered this concept and the latter hasn’t even tried to

Technical SEO Tip: Google DOES NOT use your URL structure to determine your site hierarchy. This is a common misconception in SEO:

@olegko What would you recommend using to view as Googlebot? I tried one extension I found in an article describing how to do this, but I don't think the features of the extension allow for this anymore.

Hey technical SEO friends — I am dealing with a client issue that I need help with. Would love anyone's help willing to offer it! One of our client sites is having an issue with a couple of URLs getting indexed as spam sites/redirected pages advertising a drug that starts with V and rhymes with Niagara. We've checked everything I am familiar with for where this could be coming from, and I can't reproduce the issue when actually looking at the live URL. However, it's been happening on the top 2 pages on their site, which means their site traffic is dropping significantly because Google keeps crawling it using that "redirect." (I'm using quote marks because I don't understand at all what's *actually* happening, and I'm not sure how a redirect would get turned on and off constantly.) For context, this site also had some sort of spam/malware attack on its Meta pixel that seems somehow related. However, to our knowledge, that has been resolved. The dev has run reports to search for malware on the site to no avail. There are no redirects on the URL from the places we add redirects. I found it once by mistake, and I have resubmitted to GSC 4 times for the first page it happened to, but every time it gets re-indexed, it shows up in GSC as this stupid spam page. I am open to any and all suggestions for what to look for and what might be happening!

Have a broken favicon in SERPs? Check the file format -- webp isn't compatible (yet), & some CDNs auto-convert images to webp Also, per docs, make sure favicon dimensions are a multiple of 48x48 (96x96px, 144x144px, etc) [this didn't fix the issue though] h/t @carlos_darko
Carlos Ortega@carlos_darko

Sadly, this is the nail in the coffin for my other major HCU client loss (who also left in April for another agency). It's very interesting, because other than the fact that the site with gains runs ads and that this one does not, we used almost identical strategies (and the clients were very similar in industry, etc.).

It kind of sucks to share knowing this client left us in April and is unlikely to ever come back, but... here is my first HCU recovery. And yes, I'm claiming this one. The recovery is on exclusively the blog posts that we created that have not been edited or updated since they went with a new agency. The local pages (which the new agency has been working on) are down by 46% since the update started (although that's like 40 > 20 clicks, so not really a significant piece of data). It's too little, too late in terms of me losing one of my favorite clients... but I'm happy to see it's possible!

@TalebKabbara @mihir23192 more sites are using CDNs, which trigger 429s when they detect non-safelisted crawler-like activity solution is to ask ENG to safelist your IP/user-agent, or slow down your crawl rate

For most of the websites, the technical SEO issues could be identified, communicated, and solved using this simple workflow. I've oversimplified it, and you could make small detours based on the nuances of your website. What more would you like to add here?

@BrandenHarvey @bethmorgan @BingWMC @facan hey hey, I did indeed get it approved (shout out to @facan for the assist as it was definitely stuck) imo, didn't see any big changes in 'regular' organic traffic, but does seem to have increased the number of traffic spikes when a story 'hits' their surfaces very hard to track

@olegko @bethmorgan @BingWMC @facan Oleg, I just found this tweet because I was searching for other publishers talking about PubHub. Glad to see you here! Curious, did you ever get approved? I just got approved after almost 2 years of being on the waitlist. Curious to see what will happen next.

@facan when a site is rejected from PubHub, the message says to 'resolve the issues in the email', but no email is ever sent, and no notifications appear in BWT. Anything else that I can do/check to understand the issue before resubmitting?

finally got around to setting up a local LLM that I can access directly within my note-taking app! super fun, super nerdy, thought i'd share some links for anyone interested (it took literally 10 minutes to set up): - obsidian.md - ollama.com - github.com/logancyang/obs… (easiest to download via the "community plugins" menu in Obsidian)

@jeremarketer The amount of times I've been informed that [me/company] have been 'shortlisted' for a 'prestigious, internationally recognized magazine' industry list is absurd I will say... the lists are good source of people who will gladly pay $1k-$3k for an ego boost 😉
