@balefulrays This happens because these people are identical and would act like this in any generation, under any conditions. The generational divide is meaningless.

The Boomification of Millenials is reaching advanced stages. We are now at “I’m Gen X and I drank from the garden hose” levels of cringe. Soon the Boomification will metastasize, the cascading effects will be irreversible and Millenials will transform into Boomers

@Marlboro_TR909 @Steve_Laws_ Most fraud will be within a few economic sectors, so it won't affect the legit. Keep in mind lots are legal on paper, but their sources of income are corrupt. Simply employing unbendable agents willing to enforce the law & uncover corruption will result in a much lower population

@oliverxacc @Steve_Laws_ Agree with this so long as it doesn’t cross into aggressive harassment of legal people However much we regret the decisions of previous governments, there’s something extremely unpalatable about harassment of ordinary people

@Marlboro_TR909 @Steve_Laws_ It would be cheaper to make it difficult to live here. Constant random immigration checks & audits on certain business sectors. Massive penalties for businesses ignoring the rules. No NHS w/o insurance for non citizens. Ban most student visas. Then the remainder self deport.

@Steve_Laws_ At what point do we start discussing paying non-integrated immigrants to start a new life somewhere else? What price to we put on this? £10,000per family member? £20? £50? Still worth it

This is how I survived living in London, you need this ability when working in a city. I imagine this is much easier for people who are natural chameleons and mediators than those who are uncompromising.

I have found that you can really get away with quite a lot just by adopting a particular affect when talking to liberals about controversial topics. The most important thing, the thing everything hinges on, is that they have to be convinced that you’re basically just like them, a good person just like them, not somebody on the other side. You have to hedge a lot, sprinkle your language full of, “to be sure” and other qualifiers. You don’t want to be too direct. If something is too controversial, then you want to signal convincingly that it brings you no pleasure to report it, that you’re not saying you like it. And you have to try very hard to be reassuring, to make them believe that above all you are concerned with the welfare of the people most harmed by these revelations. You have to go into it believing that it’s your job to manage their emotions throughout the entire conversation and remain attuned to how various pieces of information are hitting their ears, adjusting your approach based on how well they’re handling it. You have to talk to them, in other words, sort of as you would to a small child whose pet has just died. I’m not saying you should do this or that you’d even want to, but I am telling you that it works.

@mheathx182 @nomad_dissident It's not self deprecating though. The hint is the "self" part, none of these people belong to the culture they're mocking

As always with Britain, the hidden hand of the class system may not be immediately obvious, but it is still exerting a force. Even at the time, there was widespread push-back at the mockney, working-class role-play of the likes of Keith Allen, Blur, Damien Hirst, Nick Hornby et al, but what is behind this weird impersonation? The upper-class/aristocracy has always been unobtainable to the middle and lower class. We are not like America, no matter how successful you are, you don’t become aristocracy, the best you can hope for is patronage or tolerance. In the 60s and onward we saw increasing backlash against the deference towards our “betters”, as Tony Benn rejected his title, and they became increasingly a target for mockery. In conjunction, the concept of the “working-class hero” developed. The middle, and especially upper-middle-class, saw a way of being “cool”, whilst snubbing their noses at the aristocracy, with far more people identifying as working-class than would be objectively defined as such. This is reinforced by our reluctance to celebrate success, tending to knock down people who succeed instead. Arguably, this is a form or Proto-wokeism, with class being a cultural identity group, and an inversion of perceived power structures. But this role-play has always been tinged with loathing. The attitude towards football fans, and especially England fans, is a decent proxy of views towards the actual working-class. And the song is shite.

Released in June 1998, “Vindaloo” became one of the defining unofficial anthems of the 1998 World Cup. Created by Fat Les, featuring Keith Allen, Blur’s Alex James and Damien Hirst, it reached number two in the UK behind “3 Lions 98” and turned terrace-chant nonsense into a full national singalong.

@SydSteyerhart This portrayal is funny; if you ever joined in on the trolling, it was almost always a few intelligent college students with an idea and hundreds of bored guys egging them on

Half of all conveni stores and 25% of all takeaways in the UK are linked to organised crime in some areas say trading standards. Add in revolting candy shops nail bars and barbers. All in plain sight. Usual assumption is that black econ is around 10% of GDP. Maybe a lot higher?

"He will spare her brother... if she sleeps with him." We continue Project 39 with Measure for Measure — Act 2, Scene 4. Isabella stands before Angelo, having pleaded for her brother’s life. He will spare him… on one condition: that she gives herself to him. A test of power, morality, and the cost of virtue. Isabella is played by Isabella Dempster. If this work moves you, share it. We are building this without industry backing—every view, every share helps us reach further. #Project39 #Shakespeare

@jimbunte @HarmlessYardDog Get this idea out of your head that Yakuza are noble. They are pimps, drug dealers and blackmailers. They won't lift a finger. Same with the Mafia; you only believe they have a code because of the movies, but they never did.
