I'm more and more convinced that Peter Thiel is one of the most dangerous men in the world. And the conclusion he seems to be drawing is that the problem absolutely isn't them doing the "crazy stuff"... the problem is when it gets exposed. For instance, he laments that the torture of the inmates in Guantanamo got revealed because it led to the "inmates and defense lawyers running the asylum", which meant in his view that "you were way safer as a Muslim terrorist in Guantanamo than a suspected cop killer in Manhattan" because "there's still an informal process in Manhattan, if you're a suspected cop killer they'll figure out some way to deal with you outside the formal judicial process". It's not very difficult to put two and two together: the world the guy advocates is one where government agencies have a free rein to do whatever they want without accountability, outside public scrutiny and outside the judicial process. A world where if you're a *suspect* - emphasis on the word *suspect* because the most basic rule of law principle is that you're innocent until proven guilty - you can be "dealt with" informally outside the judicial process. It wouldn't matter if Thiel was just a nobody but we're dealing here with a man with very deep ties to the U.S. security establishment (he founded Palantir, a major defense contractor and surveillance firm, whose first institutional backer was the CIA) and with a lot of influence on Republican politics (Trump's running mate JD Vance, for instance, used to work for Thiel at Mithril Capital and Thiel was Vance's main financial backer in his 2022 Senate campaign).
