@DavidDroui41784 @j_warner156 Nobody cared when Roman Bravo Young did it.

@j_warner156 Angelo is your guy and of course you will defend him. For your average wrestling fan he is incredibly painful to watch. The drop down is a defensive tactic with no intent of offense. Against top guys you know it’s going OT.

Can someone check and see who took more shots this match? Genuinely curious

Well this sure was something 🤷🏼♂️ “I mean, he just sits there on a knee & never shoots - & yet you’ve got to be patient & methodical & not make a mistake, is that accurate?” - ESPN’s Quint Kessenich “Should be stalling, right?” - Max McEnelly “In my book it is.” - Kessenich

@wrestlingnomad Funny. It was fine when Roman Bravo Young did it.

@Rasmussen_Poll I already have to show an ID when I vote in Iowa and I have never thought twice about it.

@rossbchek @JustinJBasch as a Hawkeye fan I am pretty let down and disappointed that I bought tickets to SS. I won’t make this mistake again.
English

@on3rivets @JustinJBasch The Women’s tournament of SS was removed back when they announced the date change.
Certain divisions have dead periods (think D2 does) and it’s right before National Duals so SS Women was axed, but For Her Duals tournament was created

You don't have to belabor the point of why they're sitting their starters. I'm good with resting their starters this week! I think it's smart with how long the season is and how active they've been early. Same with Oklahoma State. My point is simply, why not send these guys to Midlands or Scuffle?
They started this tournament because Midlands was cancelled during Covid & they wanted to get their guys matches. Midlands was then salvaged. On top of that, the Soldier Salute was for both men and women. The Iowa women aren't even going this year. At this point, I'd be surprised if the Soldier Salute is hosted next year.
English

@JustinJBasch For context, because the date moved to January it meant SS had to eliminate the women’s division.
It’s not a “Iowa Women aren’t going” or that they didn’t want it - logistically the women’s tournaments doesn’t work on these dates.

@stevemagness @Alan_Couzens Can you share a reference for this figure, thanks?

You've probably seen headlines: High-Intensity Training is superior to easy aerobic running.
But dig deeper and you'll notice a pattern: most of these studies are short: just 4 to 8 weeks.
A recent review tells a fuller story.
In the early weeks, HIT and Sprint Interval Training outperform easy endurance training (ET).
But over the long haul… the story changes

@allysonschwab @kaille_grey Rudy came to UNI in the late 90’s and gave a speech.

Sometimes you don’t realize how much of an impact something has had on you until you revisit it years later. Today, on the ride to Ohio, we had the opportunity to stop at Notre Dame and tour the football field and locker room. Hayden watched (as I listened to) the movie Rudy for the first time. I can’t count how many times I watched that movie growing up, but it had been quite a few years since I’d last seen it—until today. It still brought out every feeling it did before: An overwhelming desire to root for the underdog and a deep love for seeing them succeed.
When I entered college softball at Virginia Tech, I was that underdog. I was an invited walk-on, but I still had to earn a spot on the team. I know I’ve told this story before, but by the end of the first week—entering into the last day—I wasn’t sure I was cut out for it. I struggled with confidence, and I wasn’t a strong D1 athlete. What I lacked in natural (or even developed) talent, I made up for in hustle and the sheer will to do anything to earn a roster spot. That first year, I did everything—from catching in the bullpen to throwing BP, pinch running, or maybe an inning at second base. I just wanted to contribute, and throughout the years, that looked different depending on how my role shifted.
My biggest fear which I believe @kolat expressed as well is about roster caps, the schools opting in and all the changes that are to come in College athletics: There won’t be those underdog stories as much.
Those kids who change the culture, shift the narrative, and ooze encouragement and enthusiasm… they won’t have a spot. The guys and girls who are noticed when they aren’t at practice—because of how they push everyone else and hold others accountable without words, simply in how they go about their daily duties—they’ll be fighting for one of those 30 spots in wrestling (even fewer in some other sports). That kid who has grown up in the university’s backyard, gone to camps there, knows the campus and the fight song like the back of their hand before ever being an enrolled student—the one who turns down a chance to play and possibly earn a scholarship at a smaller school to take a chance of never making the team at their dream school… they won’t have a spot.
I wouldn’t have had a spot.
Every team needs those athletes. Every sport needs those underdogs. They remind us of what it feels like to do something for the sheer love of it regardless of their results within it. They remind us it is still worth dreaming and dreams can turn into reality with persistence, hard work, and a little bit of luck. That first year at Tech guess where we played- yep Notre Dame. We didn’t win, but it’s hard to not see the full circle moment within it.

@KingzCorner14 @KerryRegner Anthony Robles won an NCAA title doing this.
English

@KerryRegner So how long do you let them wrestle that position then? Forever? Until the end of the period? The ref gave plenty of time to improve position and it was going nowhere. The match has to go on.
English

@nate_doria @KerryRegner @KemererOverHall If it was legal when Anthony Robles did it, then it was within the rules when others did it.
English

@KerryRegner @KemererOverHall I think this boils down to if you wrestled this style or not. It’s definitely not stalling in the rulebook but I feel like everyone who ever wrestled against that style considers it stalling and, obviously, anyone who had that style would say it’s fair game
