@zdaniel Just wondering if it is right to force one company to use and pay for the product of another? The news providers choose to maintain Facebook pages and publish their own content to those pages to drive traffic and audience.

Flood the world with disinformation, pay bugger all tax, refuse to pay for news content, give govt the 2 finger salute? That’s Meta for you. Game on. Enforce the code, close the tax loopholes to raise revenue and make them responsible for disinformation and misinformation.

Is anyone else getting loads of scam ads about losing 65kg without diet and exercise? I’ve reported six and blocked another six in the last five minutes alone but they keep coming.

If you work in or are slightly interested in advertising, do yourself a favor, and read "Where The Suckers Moon: The Life and Death of An Advertising Campaign"
The Agency Review@TheAgencyReview

You may not remember the agencies that DON’T win the #Subaru business in #randallrothenberg’s #WhereTheSuckersMoon, but no one probably will remember your agency either. Our review: the-agency-review.com/where-the-suck… #advertising @wiedenkennedy

@cjoye Government spending still driving a disproportionate amount of inflation. Many ways to cool the economy other than hitting mortgage holders.

From DB: We estimate that Australia's Federal and state governments are adding fiscal stimulus in 2023-24 worth around 2% of GDP (or $50bn). Outside of the GFC and covid eras, that is the most since at least 1998-99 and sits entirely at odds with the 400bps of monetary policy tightening delivered by the RBA since May last year. We still think the RBA needs to hike further. Our terminal cash rate remains at 4.6% by December this year (two more hikes of 25bps at each of the November and December meetings). Fiscal policy working in the opposite direction to monetary policy only adds to the case for further hikes.

@psimpsonmorgan Spot on. Execs not that concerned about fines that impact incoming replacement management and shareholders.

@ABCmediawatch The games are a challenging commercial proposition. No I’m okay commercial breaks only pre and post and half time. Hard to make money on. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be on free to air - just that it is hard to monetize.

“… the Women’s World Cup is not on the anti-siphoning list, so pay TV companies were allowed to buy the rights. And Optus Sport duly did for a bargain US$8 million …”

@psimpsonmorgan Better for the public and the sport long term to have a bigger audience - free to air. Sadly this runs up against a desire to get the best $$ deal for the sport and players which means pay tv deals. Long term bigger audience delivers the best outcomes.

@lenoretaylor Local events and community functions most likely to appeal to and engage with the converted. There needs to be a mass media spend to target the large undecided/available audience. No point preaching to the converted.

@KosSamaras The federal Govt has fallen in to the trap of believing that communicating via media conference is mass communications. It isn’t. There needs to have been, or should be, a mass market awareness campaign informing people about the referendum.

Why a 53% yes vote should worry supporters of the Voice. First problem. We know that surveys on issues of morality do suffer from social desirability bias. A comfortable % needs to be over 55. Second problem. Because the Yes campaign did not provide detail early on, they have blown life into the No campaign. Even to this day, we still have young progressive Gen Z not able to tell us what the voice is about. That lack of information is now morphing into anger because they feel ignored. Third problem. Low levels of information can be overcome by an intense campaign, that in today’s media market would cost well over 100 million. I don’t reckon anyone is walking around with that sort of money. They will need to run this intense information campaign at the worse possible time. Last year was ideal when economic stress was not intense… But guess what is going to occur over the next few months? 600,000 to 800,000 households will move from fixed to variable - the mortgage cliff. Now all the above does not mean the Yes vote won’t succeed. But it does mean the hurdle is a few feet higher now. Graph source: Nine News.
