Fact: If you pay your house off it’s always paid off.
Fact: if you instead put that money into stocks based on “historic data” and the market crashes, you could lose it all, or a big portion. And you would still owe on the house.
I will never understand how staying in debt supersedes investment money. Pay off the mortgage then start investing that amount but be debt free. The secure feeling alone is worth it.
Plus a paid for home grows in value, can be used as a rental, etc.
I am far from Dave Ramsay on debt but if you’ve ever lost everything and been homeless during 2008 or another crash you might know where I am coming from, too many people only look at the last 10-15yrs of data.

Should you pay off your mortgage early or invest instead? A couple recently faced this exact dilemma. They had $180k in cash and a $175k mortgage at 3.1%. Spouse #1: “Let’s just pay it off. I hate debt. I want the house free and clear.” Spouse #2: “No way. Why use cash to eliminate a 3% loan when we could invest it at 7% or more based on historical returns?” Both had valid points. Her math said invest it. His stress levels said pay it off. So they compromised... paid off half, invested half — improving cash flow and keeping their long-term plan on track. This decision isn’t purely financial. It’s emotional, behavioral, and personal. And that’s why this debate will never end. Have you run your numbers on this scenario? (Example is hypothetical and for illustrative purposes only)

My dividends pay for Spotify, so this egregious 12% price increase doesn’t bother me.
Even though this is one of my smallest bills, the principles of financial independence still apply. Anyone can offset this bill and once you have, you’ll never pay for it again, even if they raise the price.
That’s the beauty of managing your bills in terms of invested assets and thinking like someone who wants to become financially independent.

It’s crazy to me that this post received over 500k views in 24 hours but no one from @SouthwestAir’s great social media team—which will typically respond to a random complaint with 36 views about beverage service on a flight to Boise—responded. I asked an honest question and even asked to be persuaded. Is anyone at SWA willing or able to make the case? If Southwest believes in what it has transformed itself into—a quasi-legacy carrier that lacks the benefits offered by Delta/United/American—I wish someone over at Love Field HQ would say it with their chest. Come on, show me some LUV and make the case to keep my business!

Honest question from someone who has been a @SouthwestAir A-List Preferred flyer and loyalist for more than a decade: what’s the case for flying SWA now? With the abolition of open seating and “Bag Fly Free” SWA is now just another legacy carrier—albeit one without true first class, lounges, or meaningful international routes. The “new” Southwest offers all the downside but none of the upside of Delta/United/American. What’s SWA’s best argument why I shouldn’t park my butt at AA’s Admirals Club at DFW while waiting for my assigned seat from here on out? Persuade me.
