🔥 First article in @opensourcecards is live! “Reclaiming our Catalog: A New Model for Scholarly Publishing” Researchers generate the ideas, secure the funding, conduct the studies, write the manuscripts, and review each other’s work. Yet the final product is controlled by commercial publishers, locked behind paywalls, or made available only after authors pay thousands of dollars. We believe there is a better model: a nonprofit, physician-led, open-access journal built to make high-quality cardiovascular science freely available while keeping the academic community at the center of publishing. Read our vision for reclaiming the scientific publishing process: opensourcecardiology.org/doi/osc.2026.0… Time to be part of the solution! Submit or review with us 👇 opensourcecardiology.org/signup

Thanks @DRJamesOKeefe and Evan O'Keefe for submitting your manuscript to @opensourcecards! Direct quote: "By far the easiest submission process I've ever encountered. Overall, very self explanatory, very efficient."

Academic publishing is long overdue for real disruption. As I’ve been posting about recently, the current system is fundamentally broken: paywalls that block access to research, sky-high article processing charges that favor well-funded labs, months-long review cycles that slow down medical progress, and peer reviewers who do the heavy lifting for free with zero recognition or career benefit. We are introducing OpenSource: Cardiology, a physician-led option built by and for the cardiovascular community. 🔓 100% open access - free for every reader, worldwide 💵 Zero publication fees for original research (sustainably funded, not on authors) ©️ Authors retain full ownership of their work 🤖 Smart AI to accelerate submissions, reviewer matching, formatting, and integrity checks - without replacing human scientific judgment 🧠 Reimagined peer review with actual incentives: gift cards, opportunities to publish editorials and earn co-authorship, and paths to advancement in the editorial team We are open for business! Follow us @opensourcecards, submit your manuscripts, and signup as a reviewer at opensourcecardiology.org. Join us and be part of the solution! Thanks to everyone who has advised @jtsaxon and I on this journey including @djc795 @CMichaelGibson @DrDamluji @AndrewJSauer @heartofthemater @ShahzebKhanMD @MichaelNassifMD @venkmurthy @AmitGoyalMD @JavedButler1 and others!

We will use AI to make publishing faster and better—not to replace scientific judgment. Streamlined submissions. Intelligent reviewer matching. Faster formatting and editing. Checks for unreliable data, images, and references. Integrity first. Innovation always. Join our movement: opensourcecardiology.org

We are also reimagining peer review. Reviewers deserve more than an anonymous thank-you. OpenSource: Cardiology will recognize meaningful intellectual contributions through editorial opportunities, leadership advancement, reimbursement for high quality reviews, and when appropriate, co-authorship.
