@loganb @spokanerising Is it an ADA compliance issue? Retrofitting existing streets to meet requirements is insanely expensive. It's somewhere around $200000 per sidewalk mile to do

@spokanerising I don’t remember what the repaving numbers are like, but the sidewalk installation numbers are eye-popping. We’re getting something like a few hundred block faces with a significant chunk of a 10 year levy.

I don’t want to yuck anyone’s yum, because this is genuinely good for NYC. But as a cautionary tale, Seattle started a “pothole rangers” service about 15 years ago and fills any pothole within ~48 hours of a request. Currently the City has no plan to ever pave another side street again, so they’re all slowly falling apart…
Paul E Williams@PEWilliams_

We now have an answer to the question of "is NYC just doing good social media posts about service delivery, or is service delivery actually changing?"

@discordspies I ride the train to work in downtown Portland twice a week and it's typically great. Once when I was 17 I saw a guy wipe his ass with Dairy Queen napkins while riding it to a basketball game. I do think about it every time lmao

It's so weird to hear Americans talk like this because I've been reliant on public transport my entire life and it's just Not Like That in the UK Is it really that consistently bad or is this a thing where everyone has like one story that colours their whole experience

@trash_panda97 I think its okay to not want to live somewhere where getting screamed at and pissed on for simply using a train is a real possibility

@BHorbo1983 @ByGerrySullivan The point is that education is incredibly expensive compared to what previous generations paid. Tuitions have gone up 3-4x relative to inflation. Compounded with housing costs people in their 20s leave university and are immediately drowning financially if they don't have help

@BHorbo1983 @ByGerrySullivan I went to an in state public school, had about 50% tuition in scholarships along with parent help, part time working during school and full time in summer. Still graduated with ~30k debt. Thats what the cheap option looks like, there's no summer jobs that pay your tuition anymore

@ByGerrySullivan OR...hear me out, choose to stay home for college, great state education and pay less. But every college student feels entitled to dorm, get a meal plan, new laptop, and get it for ...cheap?

@nikicaga It's useless data, of course dems are less popular in 2024 than when Obama won Indiana and almost got ND, MO, and MT. I bet the chart is an exact opposite if you take GOP peak in 2002-2005 and compare to something like 2017-2020. Just doesn't mean anything

@hnydrzlbaklava @byjoelanderson As I said “racist” is a bullshit word. Do I not want to be around a bunch of fucking criminals that contribute nothing and stand around crying about centuries ago with their hands out wanting something for free? No I don’t, if that’s racist then fuck it, guilty as charged.

If you’re a Roman Catholic & you support Jaden Ivey being fired because he called your religion false, shame on you. If you’re a member of the LGBTQ community & you support Jaden Ivey being fired because he doesn’t support Pride or gay marriage, shame on you. If you’re a sports media member & you say Jaden Ivey is mentally ill, shame on you. Jaden Ivey was fired for simply holding to historical, foundational, Biblical Christian beliefs. No one should be fired for that in the NBA or any other sports league. If you support Ivey’s firing, the problem is actually with you, not him.

For those who are just discovering the clown that is District Court Judge Nathan Milliron… Last year he posted a rant on Facebook complaining that the Harris County GOP Chair hadn’t attended his investiture ceremony (even though he had spent the previous two years on Facebook threatening to sue her and the party). I responded that he was being obnoxious and immature. He threatened a bench warrant (he later deleted the comment, but not before I screenshotted it).

@MKnightRaytheon @nazzobetweeting If the protest is about the economy Epstein scandals, why weren’t there any protests during Biden years? Gas spiked to $5/gallon across the country at one point and Epstein was arrested in Trumps first time. Sorry, but it doesn’t feel authentic.

People straight out of collage who know the job market has basically abandoned them for cheap labour is joining the one organization still offering them viable, fast track careers and motivation to remove those who even people in government openly, gleefully say they want replacing them in the job market. It's a real mystery why so many young people sign up when elected officials say "who is going to do (so and so) jobs" they never say "our youth" because they've abandoned them. Why is this always the playbook. Absolutely strangle young peoples opportunities, tell them they have no future, they have an entire planet and AI to contend with in local job markets and you do not care what happens to them as long as you get cheaper roofers. Don't even attempt offering them any viable solution to struggles you caused them and then when your enemy is the only one offering them one, you go "Heh, always knew the youth were fascists in waiting"
