Pretty odd antics on New Zealand X this week about a free trade deal with India, a country that is on track to be one of the worlds largest economies, is a democracy in a world where those are very rare and authoritarianism is growing rapidly, and provides a massive new market for our trading nation in an era of the greatest geopolitical uncertainty in the last 80 years. Rather than celebrating that; some have been trying to replicate some of the “great replacement” social media angst sweeping Europe - in some cases for what appear to be cynical political reasons, for others out of misunderstanding driven by what they’ve seen from those trying to scare them at a time when they already feel uncertain about the world. The reality is that New Zealand’s sovereignty over permanent immigration, residency pathways, and citizenship remains fully intact. The agreement is limited to temporary mobility, and does not create or lock in any permanent outcomes.

UPDATE - The infamous 764 child exploitation network member known as "White Tiger" is apparently having a rough time behind bars.
Shahriar J, 21, from Germany faces 204 charges for grooming and extorting over 30 children between the ages of 9 and 15 into performing degrading sex acts, self-harming, and attempting suicide.
The charges include murder and attempted murder, as his abuse was linked to at least one successful child suicide.
The Sun is now reporting that his alleged crimes have made him one of the most hated inmates at the facility, with fellow prisoners placing a “bounty” on his head.
His trial is scheduled for December.

26-year-old Jeffrey Roussel from Quebec City, Canada is facing terrorism charges for his role within the 764 child extortion and exploitation network.
The RCMP alleges he promoted terrorism in 764-related Telegram channels with the aim of inspiring and recruiting others.
The 764 network was designated a terrorist entity in Canada in December 2025, opening the door for terrorism charges against its members.
It is believed that Roussel went by the username "Kisoh" and authorities say he has several teenage victims who have not yet been identified.

ACT is welcoming cross-party support for a motion condemning antisemitism, after a survey revealed a new high in antisemitic incidents in New Zealand in 2025.
The Antisemitism Worldwide Report notes 143 antisemitic incidents in New Zealand in 2025, compared to 131 incidents in 2024, 134 in 2023, and eight in 2022.
All parties in Parliament today approved a motion without notice presented by ACT, stating: “That this House condemn all incidents of antisemitism in New Zealand, and affirm that antisemitism has no place here.”
“A democratic society works through disagreement with free speech and open debate – not with violence, intimidation, and vandalism,” says ACT Leader David Seymour.
“Of course, overseas conflict will stir strong feelings and disagreement. But we do not need to accept imported hatred.
“New Zealanders all have something in common – we or our ancestors have crossed thousands of miles of ocean to build lives together at the bottom of the world. Whatever our differences in religion, ancestry, or worldviews, our strength as a nation depends on basic respect for each other as neighbours and equal citizens.
“Too often, antisemitism is dressed up or explained away when it should simply be condemned.
“A free society depends on clear rules. You can say what you like, believe what you like, and criticise who you like, but you do not get to threaten or target people for who they are. Parliament should be crystal clear about that, not because words alone solve the problem, but because clarity sets the standard.
“Today's stand reaffirms the kind of country we are, one where everyone lives under the same rules, with the same rights and the same protection.”

Following the completion of an initial examination regarding a photograph published earlier today of an IDF soldier harming a Christian symbol, it was determined that the photograph depicts an IDF soldier operating in southern Lebanon.
The IDF views the incident with great severity and emphasizes that the soldier’s conduct is wholly inconsistent with the values expected of its troops.
The incident is being investigated by the Northern Command and is currently being addressed through the chain of command. Appropriate measures will be taken against those involved in accordance with the findings.
Furthermore, the IDF is working to assist the community in restoring the statue to its place.
The IDF is operating to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure established by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, and has no intention of harming civilian infrastructure, including religious buildings or religious symbols.

The IDF is currently examining the reliability of the photograph. If this is indeed a real, recent picture, these actions do not align with the IDF's values and the behavior expected of IDF soldiers. The incident will be investigated thoroughly and in depth, and if necessary, steps will be taken in accordance with the findings.
