Let me share the journey of @ChurchofUganda_ ’s digital transformation. When COVID-19 struck in 2020, places of worship were closed on 18th March, just a week after the enthronement of The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu as the 9th Archbishop on 1st March, and his installation as the 8th Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala on 8th March 2020. Ministry changed. People could no longer gather, not even for burials. It was a deeply challenging moment. Individuals and media houses of goodwill stepped in and offered airtime. We began broadcasting services from the Archbishop’s Palace in Namirembe. @KKariisa was among the first to respond, offering @nbstv for English service and @sanyukatv for Luganda service. @ntvuganda also generously carried our English service live, while @sparktvuganda broadcast the Luganda service. @ubctvuganda equally provided airtime for English services. Words of Hope Ministries Uganda supported us with live streaming on our Facebook and YouTube platforms, while the Anglican Youth Fellowship Choir faithfully ministered through music during those difficult times. All this was offered freely as a contribution to God’s ministry. Not even transport facilitation was requested. It was pure goodwill. As the journey progressed, the Church acquired majority shares in COU Family TV, which joined the live broadcasting effort. @onlinecou was also established to marshal up the efforts. Across the country, many churches attempted to livestream services through their own platforms, but the costs proved unsustainable. Those with capacity carried on. Through his networks, Archbishop Kaziimba connected with Mr. John Kamya, the Chairman of Hamilton Telecom, who committed to fully sponsor the Church’s digital transformation journey. He went on to establish PaxTel to support the Christian community (Anglican, Catholic, SDA, and Pentecostal churches), as well as SalaamTel for the Muslim community. Recognizing Uganda’s agrarian backbone, he also introduced AgroTel Uganda to digitize the farming experience. Today, we are developing a Management Information System to strengthen communication, management, and accountability within the Church of Uganda, fully funded by Hamilton Telecom. Through @Paxtel_mobile, we are advancing several key priorities: 1. Creating a unified communication platform to strengthen engagement across the Church 2. Driving technology-enabled service delivery across Church institutions, contributing to youth employment 3. Establishing sustainable revenue streams without requiring capital investment 4. Promoting financial literacy and inclusion among our members 5. Strengthening support for healthcare and social services We continue to pray that we will leave behind a truly digitally transformed Church.

The @_AfricanUnion has to fund itself. International solidarity is always welcome but the era of overdependence is over.Thank you AU Chairpeson @ymahmoudali and the #African Union leadership for our meetings today . This is a longstanding problem which has defied many attempts but it is now time for resolution.
African Union@_AfricanUnion

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, this afternoon received Donald Kaberuka, AU Special Envoy on Sustainable Financing for the Union & Financing for Peace in Africa, for consultations on advancing the reform agenda of the AU. The discussions formed part of the Chairperson’s ongoing consultations, in line with the guidance of the AU Assembly at its 39th Ordinary Session, on strengthening institutional reforms & ensuring the effective implementation of the Union’s mandate. Dr. Kaberuka commended the Chairperson & the leadership of the Commission in advancing reform initiatives, including the operationalisation of the Skills Audit and Competency Assessment (SACA). He, however, cautioned the evolving geopolitical environment & shifts in international development financing present growing challenges for multilateral institutions. In this regard, he underscored the importance of sustainable & predictable contributions from Member States to safeguard the Union’s financial sovereignty & enable it to deliver on the aspirations of the African people. The Chairperson @ymahmoudali reaffirmed that financial sovereignty remains a central priority of the new leadership of the Commission in advancing the objectives of Agenda 2063. He welcomed the decision of the Assembly to convene a joint session of Ministers of Foreign Affairs & Ministers of Finance to consult on & develop a sustainable financing model for the Union. The meeting also discussed the importance of greater coordination & harmonisation among the various specialised offices & institutions of the AU where necessary, in order to enhance coherence & ensure more effective delivery of the Union’s mandate. Dr. @DonaldKaberuka further briefed the Chairperson on ongoing efforts to secure sustainable financing for peace operations in Africa, noting the opportunities presented by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2719. The Chairperson agreed that the resolution provides the most viable & sustainable framework for supporting African-led peace support operations. The Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, Salma Malika Haddadi, @DCP_Haddadi provided an update on the current status of the institutional reforms undertaken thus far, while Dagmawit Moges, Director of the African Union Peace Fund, briefed the meeting on the implementation of the Fund. The meeting concluded with a commitment to accelerate the reform process, with the Chairperson affirming that the new leadership of the Commission will prioritise the implementation of the AU reform agenda. There is a growing narrative, especially on social media, claiming that "education is not the key to success", that one must search for other “keys.” I strongly caution young people against this misguided thinking. Education remains a key. It may not be the only key, but it is certainly a fundamental one. It opens doors to knowledge, opportunity, innovation, and responsible leadership. Education equips individuals to make informed decisions, contribute meaningfully to society, and navigate the complexities of the modern world with confidence and integrity. Nothing replaces knowledge. No one should mislead you into believing otherwise. Yes, there are a few successful individuals with limited formal education, but how many are they? They do not even constitute 1% of Uganda’s population. Exceptional cases should not be used to misguide a generation. Sustainable success is built on knowledge, discipline, and values and education provides that foundation. I firmly debunk the narrative that education is not essential to success.
