I was in Arua City today to join the City Mayor-elect, @LAlionzi and other leaders in celebrating his victory. I told him that he is an important ambassador for young people and this requires him to deliver exceptional performance. Beyond Alionzi, West Nile has distinguished itself as a cradle of young leadership—from Hon. Osoru Maureen to Hon. @Leniacharity among others. I have no doubt it will continue to produce even more leaders in the years ahead. I advised him to focus on service delivery, remain humble and work with all leaders across the political divide. Where there are differences, I encouraged him and fellow leaders to reconcile with their opponents and unite the people of the region. As the City Mayor, he will be leading one of the most strategic cities in our country, given its proximity to the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. I thanked the people of West Nile for their strong support for @KagutaMuseveni and @NRMOnline in the January elections. This performance reflects their voluntary commitment and confidence in the party’s vision. Arua is a vibrant economic hub with many entrepreneurs. However, its growth must be built on ethical and honest business practices. Smuggling, a common practice, cannot be the foundation of sustainable development. With the connection to the national grid, I urged leaders in West Nile to prioritise transforming Arua into an industrial city. It is time to move beyond trading to manufacturing and to build real industrial capacity. Given its strategic location, West Nile is well-positioned to serve large markets in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. I also called on leaders to mobilise farmers to transition from low-value crops like tobacco and cotton to high-value crops such as coffee and cocoa, while strengthening agriculture as a key driver of economic growth. The government will continue to invest in critical infrastructure, including Karuma and the Pakwach Bridge, to ease the movement of goods and boost trade across the region.
