Satnam Singh@satnam6502·
12 years I was on the verge of failing my second attempt at interviewing at Google. I was summoned to the New York office of the potential hiring Director who said "Satnam, your interview feedback is all over the map, we can't make sense of who you are, can you even code?" I reached over to that month's edition of Communications of the ACM on his desk which had in it an article by me and pointed to all the C++ and C# code listings and said "I wrote all of that code." He looked at me, looked at the code, looked back at me and said "OK, I'll sort it". Thanks to @fergushenderson for the office tour, and to Stephen Edwards at Columbia for looking after my kids while I interviewed. dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.114…

@levelsio still hate cubicles though, feels like been trapped in a low budget office drama. WFH or whatever you want if you need to focus, for big planning meetings and socialize (once in a while / no mandatory) open space is good fit inmho

And we have reached the end of the cycle where 1995 cubicles are becoming cool again Took 28 years I am convinced trends somehow happen in 7 year periods 1995-2002 cubicles good 2009-2016 cubicles bad -> open offices good 2016-2023 open offices annoying 2023-2030 open offices bad -> cubicles good again

Re-renders in React: When I was first learning React, I assumed reducing the number of unnecessary re-renders (and, tangentially, any re-creation of functions) was really important. I remember teaching students to avoid any inline arrow functions in the `render` method...

Carl Pei on foldables, courtesy of @IndiaToday. Can't sell what you don't have, right? This is also such a weird take. Because people might not wish for a foldable phone but they do wish for a large screen or a small phone, albeit without the drawbacks of each.

Just saying ... Progressive Web App FTW. If you use x.com as a website and install it as a PWA, the rate limit doesn't seem to apply. Combine with Control Panel for Twitter + BlueLiteBlocker, and it's all fine. windowscentral.com/tweak-new-twit…

@Lunayian @Jason_Rubin On every photo I see I can't stop trying to think if I can finally drink coffee in a coffee cup while wearing the headset. Seems like it will never work 😭

Minor, but since I keep seeing people claim that the headstrap isn't removable due to the new I/O port locations, I will point out that @Jason_Rubin is using a Quest 3 with an Elite Strap in his Twitter profile picture :D

We need to address the data reliability issue. We are building a society that blindly takes directions from google maps, asks chatGPT for every aspect of their lives, is unable to distinguish real from fake images, and trusts idiots talking idiotic things on Twitter.

@ToysARs @nathie I think regular gamming is a pretty niche category itself. We got a console at the office and only some harcore gammers are playing regularly, but with VR even old business suit people put on the glasses and play pingpong. Tech just need to improve a bit
