If any school districts want free briefings or to chat through their plan, DM and call me… it’s important to me that schools have a plan. Feel free to tag school districts so they see this.

DMV school districts – as we said Thursday/Friday, it's imperative you have a severe weather plan and don't try to "wing it." Nobody has any excuse to be caught with their pants down. Ask yourselves the following: – If a tornado warning is issued, where will the kiddos shelter? – If kiddos are on the bus, do the bus drivers know what to do? – How will bus drivers be notified of warnings? – Will dismissal occur if storms are approaching? Will dismissal be delayed? – Have parents been clued in about the approaching severe weather?

@EJGoulet Also - this is an insidious way to teach to the test. Alice Deal was already scoring well in standardized tests and this "pilot" is blatant in how shocking it is trying to teach to the test for DC students as a whole

@EJGoulet Have DCPS central back off on forcing this curriculum. It’s a pilot and this is strong feedback.

I’ll follow-up ASAP to see what can be done, and I’ll advance a resolution and request that SBOE weigh-in through a letter or resolution. We must continue to ensure our middle school students develop the skills to read full-length novels.

Staff at Alice Deal Middle School decided this year to remove all full-length novels from the 8th grade curriculum. It's a mistake, one parent writes, arguing that "reading full novels has real and important benefits" in middle school and beyond: 51st.news/opinion-dcps-m…

@51stnews @dcpublicschools why would you change something that's working at @AliceDealMS ? Prep the kids for beyond highschool!! Is this a way to teach to the test and improve Impact scores rather than actually preparing kids?

This is a BIG deal. I hope the DC Council demands information from DCPS who in turn demands it from this company.
Washington Teachers' Union, AFT Local #6@WTUTeacher

The school system must be cautious and considerate when requesting personal information from students and educators through third-party companies. We hope that this hack did not negatively affect our students and teachers. If @dcpublicschools was impacted by this hack, we urge them to be transparent about the situation. @ChmnMendelson

@EJGoulet 1. Why couldn’t the funds be reprogrammed back into DCPS. 2. How are you advocating for DCPS to receive more funds? You aren’t being successful in expanding and advocating for DCPS right now.

@EJGoulet @dcpublicschools So are you going to advocate for more time for parents, and you, to look at this and the potential impact so that they can make the best case?

My initial reaction of a public education budget increase of 5.05% is concern. Since @dcpublicschools teachers were provided with a 12% pay increase, & personnel is 84% of the DCPS budget, I'm troubled that the "buying power" for local schools will be reduced, resulting in cuts.
