Apparently, Utah has dropped the idea of using Apple/Google Wallet for digital ID, which would have been seamless, NFC capable, and free to use. Instead, Utah signed up with a company that charges $2/year.
Furthermore, the app sucks.

Instead of adding to pollution and blocking traffic these cars could pull into a parking garage and folks could be riding emissions free on a gondola to the ski resorts while avalanches are being cleared. Busses won’t help.
