I think the last thing Senator Lee wants is to be Senate Majority Leader. It is not his nature to lead the overthrow of McConnell or Thune. But he now knows how desperate things are, and Thune will never change. Lee has the respect of his colleagues and the American voters. He is the one.

@DataRepublican @shipwreckedcrew Perhaps this is answered somewhere here, but asking anyway. Why wouldn't every Senator, regardless of party, scream loudly that they were not aware of the vote? Cowards? Owned? Don't care?

My take wasn't uninformed, I do technically have an access to a thinktank which includes significant Congress experience and Johnson's take (and mine) was their consensus opinion. They had little faith in the reconciliation process or even if the Byrd amendment would even allow them to "resurrect" ICE at that step. And I've since received intel that not all Senators knew about the vote until it passed, which I suppose was the entire point of holding it at 3 AM. Some things are really as scummy as they appear to be.

I believe there is a huge over-reaction caused by a mis-understanding about what the Senate bill did and did not do last night.

But sanctuary cities are blatantly obstructing ICE, inciting violence against them and harboring illegals. These cities need to be compelled to cooperate. Otherwise, the states they’re in should lose all federal funding.
