BJP Leader R. Ashoka Slams Karnataka Govt Over Hijab Ban Withdrawal, Alleges ‘Anti-Hindu’ Bias Bengaluru Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (#BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition in the #Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashoka, has sharply criticized the Congress-led state government for its decision to withdraw the #hijab ban in educational institutions. Speaking to reporters,R.Ashoka accused Chief Minister #Siddaramaiah of indulging in “excessive appeasement” politics and warned that the move could trigger a strong backlash from the #Hindu community. R. Ashoka described the government’s recent policy decisions as a betrayal of the majority population, alleging that the administration was favoring specific groups for electoral gains. He pointed to financial allocations as evidence of bias, claiming, “This is an anti-Hindu government. They are betraying and deceiving Hindus. Just recently, they allocated a full grant of about 800 to 900 crores only to the Muslim community. There are no grants for anyone else.” Drawing parallels with political trends in other states, the BJP leader argued that leaders who “insult” or “ignore” Hindu sentiments eventually face defeat at the polls. He cited examples from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Keralam, asserting that voters there had already begun rejecting “appeasement politics.” “Whoever criticizes Hindus in this manner or treats them unjustly, the entire Hindu community is standing together to teach them a lesson,” R. Ashoka declared, directly targeting Siddaramaiah and Congress MLAs as likely to face electoral consequences. The BJP leader also weighed in on the ongoing debate over religious attire, defending the use of #saffron. He highlighted what he saw as hypocrisy in the government’s stance, noting that while officials oppose saffron symbols in schools, they simultaneously “bow down” to Swamijis who wear the same attire. @RAshokaBJP @BJP4Karnataka @BJP4India

Minister Madhu Bangarappa Says CM Siddaramaiah ‘Hurt’ by Janivara Row; Karnataka Now Aligns With Kendriya Vidyalaya Norms Bengaluru Karnataka Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa announced that the government has withdrawn the 2022 order restricting students from wearing religious symbols such as #hijab, sacred threads (#janivara) and other faith-based attire inside examination halls. Referring to the April 24 incident at a #Bengaluru #CET center, where a student was allegedly forced to remove his sacred thread, Bangarappa said the government acted to safeguard students’ rights and ensure education is not disrupted by religious practices. “A child was asked to remove the sacred thread, which is very sacred for their family. The child was hurt, parents were upset, and associations raised concern. Such practices,be it hijab, saree, scarf or sacred thread, should not come in the way of education or the future of children,” the minister stated. Madhu Bangarappa added that Chief Minister #Siddaramaiah was “really hurt” by the incident and directed immediate corrective action. He stressed that the decision was taken in the “interest of children” and not under political or communal pressure. The minister clarified that the withdrawn order will now be handled legally by the law department, even as related cases remain pending before the Supreme Court. He emphasized that #Karnataka’s move aligns with practices in Kendriya Vidyalayas and other institutions where students are allowed to follow their religious customs.“Our Constitution allows all religions. We don’t create laws that hurt children’s interests. Whatever religious practices exist, they should not interfere with education,” Madhu Bangarappa said. The issue has sparked statewide debate, especially in #Udupi, where the hijab controversy first emerged in 2022. Madhu Bangarappa reiterated that the government’s stance remains consistent: safeguarding education while respecting constitutional freedoms. @Madhu_Bangarapp @siddaramaiah

Rizwan Arshad Hails Karnataka Govt Decision Allowing Hijab, Janivara, Turban; Thanks Siddaramaiah and Madhu Bangarappa Bengaluru #Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad has welcomed the Karnataka government’s decision to permit students to wear religious symbols such as the #hijab,#janivara (sacred thread) and turban in schools and PU colleges, calling it a step towards inclusivity and respect for traditions. Speaking on Wednesday, Rizwan Arshad said the move was necessary to undo the “politics” of the previous #BJP government, which had banned the hijab in classrooms through a 2022 order. “Girls were prohibited from wearing the hijab and recently we even saw instances where a child’s janivara was removed. Children faced unnecessary hardships just to attend school,” he remarked. Rizwan Arshad emphasized that the new order ensures no student will face obstacles on account of their faith. “Regardless of caste or religion, every boy or girl can follow their traditions while respecting the uniform. They can attend school or college without discrimination,” he said. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister #Siddaramaiah and Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa for issuing the directive. “No one can now stop or impose conditions on any child from any religion seeking education at government or private institutions,” Rizwan Arshad added. @ArshadRizwan @Madhu_Bangarapp @siddaramaiah

Karnataka Government Permits Wearing Hijab, Turban, Janivara, Shivadhara and Rudraksha in Schools and PU Colleges Bengaluru In a significant policy shift, the Karnataka Government has withdrawn its 2022 order on #DressCode in #schools and PU Colleges. A new directive issued today establishes a framework aimed at balancing institutional discipline with the constitutional right to education. The government has replaced the earlier mandate with a policy that continues to require uniforms but allows “limited traditional and practice-based symbols.” Students are now permitted to wear headscarves (#hijab), turbans (#peta), sacred threads (#janivara), #Shivadhara and #Rudraksha beads, provided these remain supplementary to the prescribed uniform. The order states that no student can be denied entry to classrooms, institutions, or examination halls for wearing permitted traditional symbols. These items must not replace or alter the uniform’s purpose, nor hinder identification or compromise safety and discipline. The directive also prohibits forcing any student to wear such symbols, while forbidding their forced removal. The preamble notes that while the Karnataka Education Act, 1983 empowers the state to maintain discipline, it must also foster a secular and inclusive environment. The government emphasized that secularism, in the constitutional sense, is not opposition to personal beliefs but the practice of institutional impartiality and non-discrimination. “Institutions must adopt the noble inclusive stance of ‘Ivanammava’ (He is one of ours) as taught by #Basavanna,” the order states,, underscoring that the primary goal is to ensure no student is denied education. Effective immediately, the directive renders any prior institutional circulars or local resolutions that contradict these guidelines null and void. While the policy applies across all government and private educational institutions, the government clarified that national and state-level dress codes may still be enforced during specific examination periods as required by relevant authorities. The Commissioner of School Education and the Director of Pre-University Education have been tasked with ensuring uniform and non-discriminatory implementation of these rules across the state. @Madhu_Bangarapp @ArshadRizwan @ShalaShikshana @siddaramaiah
