Reality check for Destiny fans; Hating on Marathon will not help. First of all, it’s a good game. Second, actively rooting against Bungie’s success and revenues will result in less future investment in the IP that you claim to love. A rising tide carries all ships. Wake up.

As far as I remember, all the language is very poetic and open to interpretation, but I think you're thinking of the star, not the planet. Rhulk cracked the star in half, and the star imploded, effectively ending the civilisation that relied on it for power, and making the planet very unstable, but how unstable is open to interpretation. It refers to the planet and sky shattering, but not actually destroyed. Then during Pantheon there was a lore tab that said the Crpytarchs decoded what they believe to be the astronomical coordinates to Lubrae. Which implies theres still something there.

Out of our solar system. We never saw Riis. We never saw Torobatl. We never went to Fundament. We're not sure what state the Hive left the Ammonite in on Fundaments moon, we're told they were wiped out, but who knows? We know almost nothing of Harmony other than they were wiped out by the Hive, how many worlds did that civilisation contain? Same with the Taishibethi, the Hive wiped them out because they were weak and sword logic demanded it, but maybe some of them weren't weak, maybe more happened there that wasn't documented in the Books of Sorrow. Then lets not forget Lubrae, we know the people were wiped out by Oryx thanks to Rhulk, but the planet is still there. Then there's the Athenaeum World, the Cabals planetery equivalent to the library of Alexandria, which stores all conquered knowledge. The Distributary, can't imagine what the Awoken have been doing in that time dialted pocket universe for god knows how long. Then there's 2082 Volantis, the Vex Forge star that has stellar scale vex structures for reasons we have no idea. People who actually know the lore, know that the Final Shape didn't really have to be the end. When Oryx communed with the Darkness he wasn't speaking to the Witness, he was speaking to the Winnower itself. There's no reason another leader of another civilsation couldn't do the same, especially if they learned the sword logic first hand from The Hive. So yeah, infinite possibilities that will never happen. Because even if Bungie did get a green light for a Destiny 3, they'd probably just give us back the Destiny 1 tower and set about reskining Destiny 2 assets into Destiny 3 for 10 years.

@Mapocolops Poor management and game design eventually killed it putting out tons of low quality seasons and expansion drove the players away Bungie killed their own game by thinking what they were making was better then what the players wanted in reality

"Marathon killed Destiny" or in a much, much longer format: - Content Vault/engine upgrade: Lost story content/favourite activities and weapons gone. Player investment soured. - Sony buying Bungie for $3.6B, at a major peak for Destiny with Witch Queen - The following expansion Lightfall being a major bomb and misstep which was the result of shuffling expansion/story plans - This expansion was what they were banking on being an even further success to finance their other two projects in development at the time. - First Bungie layoffs in Oct 2023, revenue for Destiny fallen by 45%. Destiny Final Shape delayed 6 months, Marathon delayed to 2025 (at the time) - Second round of Bungie layoffs 1 month after Final Shape. Pete Parsons CEO at the time saying they had to make the decision after exhausting all other mitigation options. (What they didn't know yet is he was enjoying that inflated Bungie sale to Sony, buying a whole plethora of classic cars to enjoy while he fired hundreds of devs. but yes, all other options exhausted). - Resulted in unannounced Bungie game transitioning to a new studio under Playstation. - Creative Studios arm of Bungie moved into Playstation to help support other Sony live service. The next big Destiny thing Payback, was cancelled. Big Bungie names laid off. - These two layoffs took Bungie from 1600 employees to about 850. - Sexual harassment accusations against the at the time Marathon game director Christopher Barrett, he is fired. - Oct 2024 Red War plagarism lawsuit, dude says the narrative is lifted from work he wrote on wordpress in 2013/2014. the content is vaulted they can't access it. YouTube footage of the campaign is insiffucient. Nov 2025 they reach an undisclosed settlement. - May 2025 art plagarism with Antireal. Art she created in 2017 were found within the beta of Marathon as art assets. Bungie confirmed a former dev had used the art without permission, promising to work with Antireal to correct it and performed a full evaluation of art in Marathon to verify originality. Antireal was satisfied with the outcome they reached. Marathon delayed indefinitely at this time, with a mention of releasing within that fiscal year. - This was, and still is massively overblown to "every single part of Marathon" being plagarised, and the misinformation surrounding this is staggering and genuinely put a knife in the game's chest. This was a consequence of mass layoffs resulting in a new creative team and this team not knowing where this art came from, and one shitty dev really dealt Bungie yet another shitty hand. - Edge of Fate launches under expectations due to such baggage from these events including company management/morale, questionable decisions like the content vault and not having any onboarding for new players at all essentially only being able to cater to existing players, unable to grow the game's population as there was no fucking cohesive story, as it got vaulted. The new expansion is bad, removes things that worked, added things that didn't, and the new game director is a long term bungie employee but also hermit who just does not speak to the community, even now with it's end of life update. - Pete Parsons leaves Bungie while laughing to the bank. - Doing the Avengers Endgame problem and going right into a new phase when people are not excited about more, they needed to build the excitement again over time. Edge of Fate comes out like a wet fart and the next thing we get after that is the Star Wars crossover, this was not what Destiny needed in order to continue even if it was good. Bungie fucked up a lot, had harbored a lot of ill will and sitting with an overall soured fanbase with a decade's worth of already very demanding fans who at times were rightfully upset and over times completely not, PLUS shit that wasn't within their control to handle so piled on even further and gave the hateful crowd so much ammo that Marathon was plagued the whole time and still is. Bungie also under fire for "abandoning Destiny" but they just simply couldn't right this ship due to so many circumstances and then players leaving in droves therefore of course they will focus on their new game to try ensure a success, as that doesn't have 10+ years of baggage and it is something that needs to keep Bungie going and now we are where we are. It isn't fucking dmg's fault for being a community manager and being excited about the future of Destiny and wanting to see it thrive. WE ALL WANT THAT, BUNGIE INCLUDED! But multiple mistakes, unforeseen challenges and a lot of fucking money get in the way of this "momentum". You can't build momentum when you're one foot in mud, and the crowd supposed to be cheering you on are throwing rocks at you. The absolute batshit takes I've seen from the community is a mixture of shameful, childish and often bordering on straight up psychotic. But yeah, "Marathon killed Destiny."

Reports suggest Bungie originally planned to support Destiny 2 for much longer, but growing financial pressure appears to have changed those plans after Sony acquired the studio. According to multiple claims, Sony reviewed Bungie’s financial performance and became concerned about rising development costs, missed targets, and declining player engagement. That reportedly increased internal focus on Marathon. Several reports also say many Bungie employees were not fully aware of how serious the company’s financial situation was until layoffs and restructuring began affecting multiple teams.

What Bungie should've done instead is focused on Destiny 2, cancelled Marathon, support Destiny 2 with a smaller team while Destiny 3 gets made. THEN You announce end of service for Destiny 2 a WEEK before Destiny 3 launches. Players don't feel abandoned, cause there's the next big thing coming. But instead now all you have is Marathon. The game that sunsets your gear, puts stuff in a vault & wipes all your progress every season, the antithesis of what Bungie fans want in their games. Unbelievable, only Bungie could do this & think this is a good idea. Actual braindead hubris the likes I thought I would never see. You're damn right I'm gonna rant about this in a video cause what the actual fuck man, I go write now this is ridiculous

Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. @drakeS77777 @patient3333 @e_fosa08 That actually is interesting, it could also explain why she was dying as a baby. As if the world created her to be the avatar, but because Aang was still alive she was simply an extra piece on the board that didn’t belong there.

Honestly, yes. Meelo was already doing things as a kid that most airbenders would struggle with for years. His raw talent, mobility, creativity, are absurdly natural even by Air Nomad standards. What makes him stand out isn’t just power, it’s how unpredictable and free flowing his style is. He fights exactly the way airbending is supposed to be chaotic, evasive, playful, and constantly moving. Even adult opponents struggled to deal with him because he never fought his opponents conventionally. He also grew up in a completely different environment from Aang or Tenzin. He had actual Air Nation culture around him, trained from birth, and learned directly from one of the greatest airbending masters alive Tenzin.
RisewireDaily@RisewireDaily

Do you think Meelo has the potential to become the next great Air Nomad master after Tenzin, considering how naturally skilled and powerful he already was at such a young age?

I still think fandom treats her choices more harshly than other Avatars whose consequences became history instead of active narrative pain. Avatars have always made emotionally driven decisions with massive long-term consequences. Avatar Roku spared Sozin out of personal attachment, Aang preserved his ideals instead of killing Ozai, and Avatar Wan separated the worlds entirely.

This is what bugs me about Avatar fanbase. They act like Korra opened the portals like she was calmly selecting dialogue options in a strategy game instead of trying to save Jinora from spiritual annihilation. This just shows how compassionate she is. She doesn’t operate like some detached cosmic machine calculating optimal outcomes. She acts like a human being carrying impossible responsibility while still loving people deeply enough to risk herself for them. Unfortunately people praise Avatars for compassion until compassion actually complicates the decision-making 🤡

People see how she and these kids don’t play about each other and still blame the stuff with Unalaq and Vaatu on her lmao. The only reason why Korra opened the northern spirit portal in the first place was because Jinora’s spirit had been captured by Unalaq and was about get destroyed by him if she didn’t. Like that’s Korra’s little sister right there, what did y’all expect her to do?!????

HBO told Benioff and Weiss they could have unlimited budget and as many episodes as they wanted for two more seasons of Game of Thrones. They said no. They wanted to write Star Wars instead. The same thing breaks every big show's final season. The longer a show runs, the smaller its writing team and creative attention get, while the budget grows to make up for it. Game of Thrones seasons 1 to 6 each had 10 episodes. Season 7 dropped to 7. Season 8 dropped to 6. Benioff and Weiss said they couldn't make 10 episodes in the show's usual 12 to 14 month schedule. They had also run out of George R.R. Martin's books to adapt after season 5. Three months after the finale aired, they signed a $200M deal with Netflix to start making new shows. Stranger Things shows the same thing happening at Netflix. Season 4 cost $30M per episode. Season 5 jumped to between $50M and $60M per episode, putting the final season's price tag at $400M to $480M. But across seasons 4 and 5, the show released fewer than three episodes per year on average. The kids on screen grew into adults while everyone waited. Behind both shows is a writing system that quietly broke. Old TV shows had teams of 10 to 12 writers working on 22 episodes per year. Streaming shrank that down to "mini-rooms" of three or four writers handling six to ten episodes. Less than half the size. And because streaming services drop every episode at once, all the scripts have to be locked before filming starts. So if a storyline isn't working partway through, there's no way to fix it. Lost is the older version. Damon Lindelof wanted to end the show after three seasons but ABC refused with "you don't end shows people are watching." So the writers spent three extra years inventing answers to mysteries they had not actually planned. Then the 2007 writers' strike cut a season short and the finale had to absorb the damage. The attention problem at the top makes everything worse. Netflix gave Ryan Murphy $300M for 10 new shows in five years. Studios now buy big creators across multiple projects at once, which means the person who built your favorite show is often half-checked-out by the time the finale gets made. Early seasons get the full creative team, a cast on their first cheap contracts, and books or comics to adapt. Final seasons get a half-distracted creator, a three-person writing team, scripts that can't be changed, a $400M budget, and a star whose per-episode pay is now ten times higher. By the final season, the budget is doing what good writing used to do for free.
