Speaking for myself only, not on behalf of any country, religion, political party, or organisation. I mute all abusive trolls on sight, so don't bother!

So it looks as though the King's speech went down well. 👍 He is, to be fair, a brilliant orator.

@mjc0ughl4n Yes, quibbling over esoteric theological fine points don't have much connection with 'real encounters' as you say.

I’m glad to see this rudeness and hostility being called out. There has certainly been plenty of it online, though it bears little resemblance to real‑life encounters. It’s also worth recognising how dramatically relations between Anglicans and Roman Catholics have improved over the last century, even with the differences that still make full communion impossible. Those differences shouldn’t prevent the leaders of both churches from meeting or working together where we do agree. A measure of goodwill and mutual respect goes a long way.
Alexander Lucie-Smith@ALucieSmith

One thing is certain: Catholics being rude and hostile to Anglicans online or elsewhere will make the Catholic Church look bad and alienate Anglicans and bystanders of goodwill. Dame Sarah is a very nice lady and following her conscience - that is all that needs to be said.

@MeidasTouch This has all the hallmarks of one of Trump's relentless obsessive desires for revenge against someone who crossed him.

Reports are surfacing that the Trump DOJ has indicted former FBI Director James Comey over his social media post featuring seashells forming the number "8647." The term "86" is common restaurant and colloquial slang meaning to eject, cancel, or get rid of something—as in, "Let’s 86 that idea" or "We need to 86 the salmon from the menu."

The bandwidth sucked up by the Mandelson non-story is embarrassing. A minor appointment taken in what was perceived to be the national interest. Astonishing that the Westminster bubble is still obsessed but then tittle tattle started to define British politics a long time ago

@RealTimVine The original producers dumped it like a hot potato. Now it's lying in the warehouse of Amazon MGM Studios like the Lost Arc of the Covenant. I liked Craig & the 5 film story arc. Had consequences though. Not only killed off Bond but also Blofeld & Spectre.

The reason why it’s taking so long to make the next Bond film is because they’ve sat down to write it and remembered that in the last one they killed him.

@tomhfh It's ironic that those very conservative Catholics who used to in effect argue that anyone disagreeing with Popes John Paul and Benedict about anything weren't 'real' Catholics are now having great problems with two popes running.

Lots of conservative catholics really disagreeing with the pope these days. Chaps… if you don’t like what the pope says, if you disagree with the idea of papal infallibility, boy do I have news of a hot new Christian religion for you!

@DavQuinn The worst thing about them is when something goes wrong and you're left stranded and embarrassed looking around for an assistant who is either busy or sometimes there's no assistant at all to be seen.

@GavinBarwell @dialoguewriter Yes, Trump is certainly not as bad as Putin, if only because of the limitations (admittedly under considerable strain at present) put on him by the US democratic system. Doesn't in any sense make him 'good' of course.

I am no fan of Trump, but anyone suggesting he is worse than Putin, whose hubris is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths in Ukraine is not a suitable person to be Prime Minister of this country
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 NEW: Zack Polanski suggests Donald Trump is worse than Vladimir Putin “As horrendous as Putin is… I’ve never seen him threaten genocide. I've never seen him threaten to wipe out a civilization… Starmer’s so-called special relationship is more of a danger than what Putin is doing in Ukraine” [@antoguerrera]

@SeanDubIreland @cooper_m Yes, there is no point being a commentator on a podcast if the person can't speak freely. People can agree or disagree with them as the case may be.

Varadkar has no reason to apologise and every single commentator calling him out is blind or facetious. I disagree with Varadkar. But @cooper_m pulled off a massive coup replacing a has been with a man only months removed from the highest office in the land. And even more so, we have a “politician” directly ANSWERING questions and giving valuable insight into Government thought processes. This Virgin Tonight debate stinks. Varadkar comments should have triggered debates on farming subsidies, the horror of 80% of our food being imported, rural urban divide, the old devolution ideas. Instead, the media and sheep alike are shooting the messenger. The next time Varadkar is asked a question on Path to Power, he’ll be self censoring his words instead of giving us the blatant honest truths behind the decisions which makes his input so valuable. Now look at the sources of all the faux outrage. Independent, Times, RTE, NewsTalk. They all have one thing in common. They all have their own current affairs podcast in competition with Path to Power. Everyone loves to hate on Leo, so it’s easy to direct that anger when 80% of Irish media paint him as the villain for raising a valid point of view. Does anyone really think the latte sipping editors at these outlets care about the farming community? I stand with farmers, and thankfully, we still live in a land of one man one vote. But we should be willing to hear criticism and accept that changes may be needed if farming represents 22% of our economy vs years gone bye. Let’s have a discussion on getting food and energy security sorted rather than watching our domestic production drop. And let’s have Leo front and centre in that debate. Those scared of debate simply don’t have the courage of their convictions, and those shouting down Varadkar, are not doing so out of a love for farmers.

"If you say something and you believe in it, what are you apologising for?" asks Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice TD following Leo Varadkar's apology. #TonightVMTV

@adamboultonTABB @StigAbell 1/2 Have always thought that stuff nonsense too. Funnily enough what would have been seen at the time as one of Shakespeare's limitations ie that he knew Latin but not Greek, strengthens the case that the works were written by someone not from the upper classes with access to a

@gerardtbaker @PhilipOConnor5 I think everyone really knows, though some pretend otherwise to others and sometimes to themselves, that Trump is a total cynic about religion but finds it useful as part of his overall stcick.

I’m a Catholic so I’ll admit I’m biased. So could a more objective observer please tell me what they think it says about someone’s character that they choose this person as their spiritual adviser while angrily denouncing Pope Leo?

🇺🇸 This is President Trump’s faith adviser Paula White performing an exorcism. Not in a horror movie. Not on late-night cable. In real life. And people wonder why the rest of the world thinks American politics has gone completely off the rails.
