Starmer is acting as if public opinion if something fixed (& well-defined) rather than something to be changed by campaigning. Which is a problem, because the right has spent decades shaping that opinion.

@simon_fawthrop @RobertHanks @CJFDillow Greens will poll 4 or 5% minimum if there's a threshold which allows a look in...anti Greens? They're almost all over 50s and vote heavily already mostly conservative. They come out to vote already its the young cohort which don't bother.

@paulc156 @RobertHanks @CJFDillow It will depend on the rules, namely the % min vote threshold. That was my point about being people being motivated differently. Similarly anti Greens will be motivated. My point was you can’t look at voting patterns under FPTP and extrapolate PR results.

@simon_fawthrop @RobertHanks @CJFDillow You cant seriously suggest Greens would get 1 solitary seat in a PR system and one thing that will change is more young people will be enthusiastic to come out and vote. Thats an incentive to be more radical if ever there was one

@paulc156 @RobertHanks @CJFDillow Your assumption is that voting patterns will be the same under PR, but that is not necessarily so. People in safe seats who saw no point in voting will/may turn out.

@simon_fawthrop @RobertHanks @CJFDillow Trouble is, FPTP is now a huge impediment to anything Green or redistributive. We don't get a say in any case. Manifesto pledges are routinely broken. Until there is economic democracy working classes are easily set one against the other and left policies too risky at GEs

@paulc156 @RobertHanks @CJFDillow I’m not a fan of PR, I prefer political deals in the proverbial smoke filled room to be done before an election and a manifesto produced and not afterwards when we don’t get another say.
