Deeply disturbing that secondary school students apparently being taught a one sided unbalanced narrative of the tragic Israel/ Gaza conflict & as reported been led by their teacher to participate in protest marches & “ learnt about the Occupied Territories Bill”. Learnt what? Which protest marches? Who were the speakers? Were there calls to “ globalise the intifada” & for Israel’s destruction? Were they taught to chant “ from the river to the sea”? Were Hamas, Hezbollah & PFLP flags on display? What, if anything , were they taught about Oct 7 & the plight of the hostages? Did they learn of Hamas promising to repeat Oct 7 & of the thousands of missiles fired from Gaza into Israel? Were they told about Hamas use of civilians as human shields & denying them access to tunnels for protection? What were they taught about the tunnels? What, if anything, did they learn about Hezbollah & Iran? What history of Israel/Arab & Israel/ Palestine conflict was taught? Were the Abraham Accords mentioned? This presents as the Teachers for Palestine online unauthorised curriculum in action which the government has scandalously chosen to ignore. Have parental permissions been sought? Has the Minister for Education anything to say? What about the Taoiseach & Tanaiste?

Appreciate the opportunity to participate in David McCulloughs RTE One show this morning. With reference to the statement in response to me issued by RTE regarding the independence of the RTE news room & the role of RTE’s Board, despite the brilliance & integrity of those such as David McCullough on the Six One news over the past two years, many perceive RTE’s coverage of the dreadful Israel/Gaza war as selective & biased. The perception is contributed to by RTE’s NUJ branch repetitive anti Israel protests & ignoring of the brutal conduct of Hamas & other fundamentalist extremists. That branches campaign to exclude Israel Nova survivor Yuval Raphael from the 2025 Eurovision contest was particularly despicable as is its continuing failed post Eurovision 2025 campaign to exclude Israel’s broadcaster, KAN, from Eurovision 2026. After the Nova Music festival at which over 360 young people of diverse backgrounds were slaughtered by Hamas, including singers & musicians, & 44 were abducted to Gaza, Israeli singers & artists participating in an international music festival shld be celebrated not demonised. Yuval’s miraculous survival at Nova lying under the dead bodies of murdered friends shld have made her an acclaimed participant in Ireland not an object of RTE hate, happily rejected by her substantial voted support from Irish viewers. RTE’s NUJ runs the RTE news room. Its perceptions & biases impact the news broadcast & who is selected for interviews. The RTE Boards boycott of Eurovision 2026, with its inaccurate & factually selective justifying statement, the drafting of which was likely assisted by a member of the NUJ, is simply a surrender & capitulation to the NUJ’s Boycott Israel campaign & that of other RTE unions & the extreme activists groups in Irish society, such as the IPSC, which advocate Israel’s elimination as a state. Somewhere along the route the RTE Board lost sight of the fact, that despite all the hype, Eurovision is just a contest between national broadcasting organisations not countries. RTE is now in a Eurovision cul de sac as until its Board stands up to the Israel haters it will remain indefinitely outside the contest. Unless the Israeli state is annihilated its unions will continue to advocate RTE’s continuing boycott. The role played by RTE’s NUJ, led by the newsrooms education correspondent, entirely undermines RTE’s statement in reply to my interview. Instead of simply observing this weeks RTE debacle, washing his hands of any role & ignoring the international damage done to Ireland’s international reputation by RTE’s conduct the Minister for Communications shld step in & demand RTE cops itself on. The decision to boycott, not broadcast Eurovision 2026 & to deny Irish viewers who can watch it on BBC, the right to vote for their favoured singer, shld be reversed. He shld also stop ignoring the pending embarrassment & international opprobrium that will result from the inevitable failure of FAI’s EUFA proposal to ban all Israeli teams from international competition.

Sincerely, Congratulations to Catherine Connolly & the Connolly campaign. They focused solely on their own efforts, never blinked & it paid off. They know what they stand for at least. On the other hand this is a total embarrassment for FF & FG who stood for nothing over the entirety of this campaign. Maria Steen could have likely run Connolly close with a full campaign. We will never know, they took it away from us. 🇮🇪
