@adamboxer1 I've been teaching for 27 years and Ofsted has put out countless frameworks and policies, often contradicting what they previously said. I'm starting to think that Ofsted don't actually know what good teaching is but surely that couldn't be right?? 🤔

In January 2019, Ofsted released the research underpinning the (now defunct) Education Inspection Framework. In it, they slammed "differentiation" and promoted "adaptive teaching." They cited research, which is great, and in broad thrust, I don't think what they said is wrong. BUT They did not really fully define either term. They did not provide much by way of exemplification. The example they used for "adaptive teaching" was "by providing focused support to pupils who are not making progress, is likely to improve outcomes" Ok, what does that mean? In class? Out of class? Booster or intervention sessions? LSAs? Who knows! That report was a summary, so as far as it goes that was all fine. But now we have a situation where off the back of it we have moved wholesale as an industry from a set of practices that sucked, to...what? A term which can mean absolutely anything to anyone. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6034be17…

I actually think "adaptive teaching" is a worse term than "differentiation" It's certainly no better

Viviane: 🌹Labour led by Keir for me
Things I know. Keir Starmer would never take a £5m bung. Keir Starmer would never have had Parties during Covid. Keir Starmer would never crash the economy. Keir Starmer would never join an illegal war. And all of that is good enough for me. Today. And every day.

@ragefighthouse Fully agree. If you ask employers they would say that young recruits often tend to lack initiative and personal drive as a result

I’ve seen students from rote-and-drill, narrow curriculum, intervention-obsessed schools leave with grade 9 GCSEs and flounder in sixth form because they lack independence, initiative and critical thinking. What exactly are we ‘helping’ them to do?

@ragefighthouse @AsendAdvocate I used to teach at a uni, so I know what you mean by that culture of dependency. It's a real issue.

@mrianleslie Had to be forced to watch yet another medical drama but now I'm annoyed that I have to wait until next week for the 7th episode of Season 2. The 'real time' dynamic works really well and the characters all become memorable in their own right

Was waiting for Martin Keown to acknowledge that Isak has been out injured for a large part of the season when having a go at his goals tally but I suppose that would undermine his stupid verdict on him and the transfer fee #matchoftheday

An incredible 52-year journey comes to an end. Following extensive consideration, BBC Sport has made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Football Focus at the end of this season. First broadcast in 1974, Football Focus is a testament to the brilliant team who have worked on it over the years and, of course, the audience. The programme has been a staple of the BBC’s football coverage for decades, providing fans with interviews, analysis and stories from across the game ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. But changing audience behaviours mean fans are now increasingly consuming football content in different ways and we need to respond appropriately as we face difficult decisions around how the licence fee is spent. Fans are accessing discussion, highlights, analysis and news through digital platforms and on-demand viewing and as viewing habits continue to evolve, it is right that BBC Sport adapts how it brings football coverage to the widest audiences across television, radio, online and to its extensive social platforms. BBC Sport boasts a strong football rights portfolio and is set to significantly expand its digital output this year growing content across BBC platforms, as well as a bold new slate of exclusive shows on YouTube. Featuring fresh formats, big personalities and more frequent, always-on content tailored for digital audiences, the expansion will bring fans closer to the game than ever before delivering more high-quality, accessible and engaging football coverage at scale. We will release further details on these plans in the coming months.

Starting in 2027, smartphones sold in the European Union will be required to have user-replaceable batteries designed for greater durability and more charging cycles. Manufacturers must also provide spare parts and repair manuals for at least 10 years after a model is released. This is real pressure against planned obsolescence. It should mean phones that actually last longer, cheaper fixes, and a lot less electronic waste piling up. About time.

Someone please tell me why teachers need an authenticator app to log into their work accounts? Are we the fucking Pentagon? Tech has failed and I can now do zero (0) work (other than marking!) to prepare for next week. Monday morning will be super fun. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@UnofficialOA @TTRadioOfficial Sick of this attitude. Quite often teachers have spent valuable time doing this as well as encouraging them to do their best to no avail. Many times kids have accused staff of picking on them not realising that we're walking on eggshells around them trying not to set them off

@TTRadioOfficial You can do that with one kid in a lesson - max. A teacher cannot walk around conducting therapy sessions for 7/8 kids who are ruining the lesson. I don’t understand how anyone can think it’s even possible.
