how is it possible that in a major city without major weather event, @EntergyNOLA cannot send someone to exchange a meter and restore power to a home for 5+ days.

The irony of this occurring as China leans heavily into STEM fields requiring expertise. I’m sure this won’t have any negative consequences though…

It seems the US is going through its own Cultural Revolution. Amidst widespread wealth inequality and economic stagnation outside of tech/AI, our government denounces/undermines expertise, in favor of opinions from media personalities an and MAGA loyalists.

Because I still don't believe it, let me share this before they change their mind and rescind it. I’ve been promoted to Professor of Medicine @Columbia ! I’m deeply grateful for the support of my mentors, colleagues, trainees, and my family along the way. I was very lucky.

@hubermanlab @HHSGov I don’t see that as an accurate representation of “trad media”. I think all media likes to talk about crappy association studies of alcohol being beneficial, despite the fact it isn’t for health, but may be worth the trade off of enjoyment

Trad media was holding onto “some alcohol might be good for you” (despite the better evidence that 0 is better than any) but now that @HHSGov removed the cancer warning (a fail IMO) trad media flipped to attacking them for it. 100% proof it’s about being anti not accurate.

@cremieuxrecueil @cremieuxrecueil for clarity. patients with low ejection fraction (those likely to have the most damage after MI) evidence shows BB benefit. However those with normal function (likely to have sustained the least damage) data showing no benefit. In that context, not too surprising

There was a lot of cardiovascular health-related news this weekend. One of the most interesting findings was that, across five studies of people with a history of heart attacks, beta blockers were useless. They didn't save lives, prevent further heart attacks—bupkes!

Medicine and public health have added three decades to the human lifespan. Vaccination alone produced 40% of the reduction in child deaths. And now a disturbed and unqualified man driven by crackpot theories is destroying the foundations of this work, including CDC.

RFK JR: I’m looking at kids as I walk through the airports today...and I see these kids that are just overburdened with mitochondrial challenges, inflammation—you can tell from their faces, movements, and lack of social connection

After a lovely P2P with @Humana, i now believe: 1) insurance should have to contact patients to inform them if they will only not reimburse for optimal care, only the bare minimum to meet needs 2) P2P physicians should be legally liable for clinical implications of denied care

There will be an “emperor has no clothes” moment when it becomes clear @SecKennedy has no idea what he is doing. If it wouldn’t cost lives and delay advances in medical care it would almost be a cathartic moment for actual medical experts, but I imagine it will just be very sad.

@nikillinit As a medicine resident this was one of the most atypical parts of my clinic experience. Setting up family members for CDPAS as paid care givers. Have always been curious whether this program effective at delivering low cost elder care

I’m always astounded by how gigantic the paid caregiver occupation in New York has become. It’s 2.7x the second largest category (retail) and is where a massive chunk of job growth is coming from “The state’s one-year increase of 57,000 accounted for almost a fifth of the home health aide jobs added nationwide. Within New York, the category of “home health and personal care aides” – with a median hourly wage of $18.26 – represented 38 percent of all job growth.”

The average caloric intake in the USA is 3540 kcal/day (FAO Data) The average physical activity in the USA is less than 20 minutes per day The average person is overweight/obese But you think seed oils explain the health crisis? You need to get your head examined

If doctors were trained in nutrition, we could: -Prevent up to 90% of heart disease cases -Prevent up to 90% of type 2 diabetes cases -Save billions in healthcare costs through nutrition-focused interventions This isn’t theoretical. With the right education, it's achievable.

BREAKING: Texas just passed a first-of-its-kind law requiring doctors to learn about nutrition. This could be the shift we need to move medicine from reactive to preventive care.

Ok my review High variance. The shrimp didn’t taste fresh, the tuna didn’t taste like tuna, but the salmon was just as good as it is at real tsukiji Packaging. Each nigiri wrapped in separate plastic packaging. Bad experience to unwrap a bunch of individual nigiri and microplastics galore Cost. I mean, what do you expect. $35 for 12 nigiri seems fair enough if it actually came from tsukiji yesterday Will update if I get food poisoning

@nikillinit Why do appointments not always start on time? Why does it take months to get an appointment? What do doctors actually do all day?

what are some common questions non healthcare people always ask? Writing a post to answer these >“why don’t we do scan everyone” >“Why does healthcare use fax machines” >“Why can’t I know what I’m going to pay for a visit” >“why do I schedule an appointment and then they’re always late”etc stuff like that
