I completely agree with you about money mismanagement in the public sector, but there’s also a serious issue with aesthetics. There’s this assumption that creating beautiful, well-designed spaces costs more, but it doesn’t have to. Coming from a construction family, marrying a contractor, and spending 6.5 years in construction lending, I’ve seen firsthand that it’s absolutely possible to design and build structures that are not only functional and energy-efficient but also stylish and elegant—all without breaking the bank. It’s not a question of cost; it’s a question of priorities and vision. We just have to want to invest in beauty and quality as much as efficiency and practicality.

Nothing says “Tree City USA” quite like the ongoing arborcide around Peekskill. Someone recently cut down *every damn tree* in the two lots next to the brewery on Water Street in the waterfront district. Here’s 2019 and today:

High-speed chases through dense areas are incredibly dangerous for everyone! We're glad @peekskillpolice terminated this pursuit when it entered city streets. Great jobs by the officers for their restraint and helping ensure more drivers and pedestrians weren't put in danger.

We've reached out to PPD for info, but generally speaking this stretch has a ton of speeding and a history of crashes and desperately needs better design, maintenance and enforcement (this would be an idea place for speed cameras).

There was a crash this morning at Division and Howard involving a driver who lost control of their SUV and flipped over.
