@2apark @NoahGairn I don’t think it’s particularly under armed, between a capable main gun, 30mm secondary guns, a RAM launcher, 24 VLS & potentially an unknown number of something like JAGM in those cells on the broadside. 5” & 30mm guns are capable of firing fuzed ammo for use against drones.

@NoahGairn It’s a nice looking ship, but appears underarmed for a drone environment. Perhaps something firing Ahead type rounds or a hybrid turret mounting? Otherwise it’s like building a Pre-Dreadnought when HMS Dreadnought is in the water. Obsolete and vulnerable on commissioning.

@northdud @NoahGairn I think it’s likely, but the launcher itself is throwing me off. Maybe a placeholder, or not. It doesn’t look like any of the existing JAGM navalized launchers, unless it’s a custom below deck mount brought above deck or something like ExLS in an above deck config.

@northdud @NoahGairn I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it’s some kind of lower footprint supplement to the ships closer in weapon systems, given the adoption of JAGM on US warships in various forms now and into the future. Relatively low cost and potentially reloadable at sea.

@MCCCANM The debate's mostly Canadian, and Canada doesn't have enough people interested in defence to sustain more than one debate at a time.
This week the debate's about whether it's okay to give contracts to Canadian subsidiaries of US companies.

Interestingly depicted with Phalanxes as well. Also stand-in harpoon launchers instead of NSM. Note the aft inflatable decoy launchers as well

@Varsevan I wouldn’t put too much stock in this render personally, it’s obviously very low detail & seems slapped together. The mast is entirely different & doesn’t match with what we’ve seen before & there’s a lot of anachronistic/strange equipment fits like the phalanx and RAM mounts

@The_Lookout_N Carney said he didn’t expect the submarine bid to be discussed between leaders as final bids have already been submitted & are being evaluated. It wouldn’t be especially appropriate at this point in time to continue the discussion much considering the stage of the process.

@NoahGairn This is a company I’d like to see supported more by federal & provincial governments. Production time for 515 is unacceptable for such an aircraft & is a serious bottleneck. These aircraft have substantial domestic & foreign demand to more than make up for reasonable investments.

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has begun building the X-76, an experimental aircraft intended to combine high-speed flight with vertical takeoff capability. The aircraft is being developed by Bell Textron following completion of a critical design review. Manufacturing and ground testing are underway, with flight testing planned for early 2028.

It’s clear what the RCAF wants but that means little as PMO has ultimate control to dictate what they will operate. I hope short sighted decisions will not kneecap us for decades to come.

Minister McGuinty was was asked how the F-35 review could have taken so long (approaching a year).
Claimed the government has been "clear from the start" they'd "take the time needed". Apparently hoping we'd forget his promise that it would be done *last* summer.
