Free 🎞️ treatment: Wesley Snipes plays self like JCVD, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Broke, reluctantly attends 30yr screening/panel of TWF,TfE!JN. Attacked by right wing terrorists. He has to go Passenger 57 and save the day, realizes conflict makes us pick a side.

@ManishEarth Similarly there’s a racist urban legend about a girl named “Le-a” pronounced “Ledasha” where the punchline is her mom saying “the dash don’t be silent,” an incorrect use of the AAVE habitual copula. This part escapes commentary in its Snopes article snopes.com/fact-check/le-…

random language observation here: the interviewer says "I've been knowing you guys" (as opposed to "I been knowing you guys") which I *think* is "incorrect" AAVE

@colpooptaint @hostisromae @architectfutaba The thing about the unmanned missions is you don’t need to do any of the return trip. The blastoff from the moon, intercept with orbiting command module, and return to earth was so much more than getting a probe to Venus or Mars. I say this as a homer for the USSR space program!

considering whitey is going to the moon again, i feel it pertinent to remind everyone that the USSR did everything the US has ever done, but in the 60s, as well as being the only human nation in history to land on and take pictures of venus, which they did in the 70s

@lovroskolacic @trupiecie She discovered and named Polonium after her then-partitioned homeland. If she were French she would have called it Francium, which was discovered by famous French woman scientist (and her student!) Marguerite Perey! I hope Perey was on the slideshow at least.

@JoeyRedner @NickStillHere FWIW on openpowerlifting filtering for Raw+Wraps Women Sort by Bench 225 is a hundreds-way tie for 4,372th place and 225.97 (102.5kg) is a ~600-way tie for 3,760th (with the likes of Bev Francis!!) Add drug testing and the places are 2,801 and 2,360. It’s extremely rare!

@NickStillHere In powerlifting gyms they are and for the best of the best women, 225 lbs is trivial. But yeah your regular gym going woman isn't anywhere near 225 lbs. But I would submit the gap between amateur lifter PR and competitive lifter PR is bigger for women than for men.

@toomuchistrue I contend that ever since the invention of neo-classical architecture it’s always been a larp that turned real.

the official white house account posting spooky analog horror ARG shit is actually really clarifying as to what it is that feels so surreal about life in america now: it's that it's like a LARP that's somehow become actual real life

Reading an academic book about emoji-use in digital activism. Author talks about the use of the rainbow emoji and the white flag emoji separately, seemingly not realizing they were looking at their data through a platform that simply doesn't support the 🏳️‍🌈 emoji...

@ryanmcj @suzania As with almost anything in English, the noun is Germanic and the adjective meaning “related to that thing” is Latinate and sounds nothing like the noun. In the case of Easter, it’s “Paschal.” See also cat/feline, wolf/lupine, fox/vulpine etc.

@bishara A low bar back squat, if you put the bar further down your back, you can lift slightly more weight. Powerlifters do this version for competitions and I hate it tbh

@tritlo @SandyofCthulhu There were a few guys with classic Model A Fords in my old town. I wanted them to get one of those stickers because in one case the car was actually older than Ford’s The Dearborn Independent publishing “The International Jew” but it’s a pretty niche joke.

VW halted its still-limited civilian production with the onset of WW2. The entire Nazi economic system was that civilian enterprises were forcibly enslaved to government control. You know, like in China, Brazil, and New York City. When I hear, say, French leaders say things like, "Government should have a seat at the table with industry" it sends chills through my soul because that's the precise definition of fascism. At least economically.
