@AllieJade1 Been around since the Ice Age. I wish ppl wd stop labelling everything the "Gen Z this" and the "Gen X that".
English

I've read about this Gen Z stare and up til now, I'd never encountered it. That was until today. I walked into a local take out shop. 2 cash registers, 2 people ready to take your order. The first girl was busy with customers, so I look at the girl at the 2nd cash. She just stares at me. Her face never moved, she didn't blink, she just stared at me like I was invisible. It was like she didn't know how to acknowledge or give basic social cues. I'm looking at her thinking, usually people behind the counter say hello first as a cue to advance to their wicket. She just stared at me!
So I ask: Hi, do you want to take my order?
Her: Sure.
That's all she initially said.
Honestly it was the oddest thing I've ever encountered, it was like she was on auto pilot. Once I started speaking to her, it was like her batteries kicked in and then she smiled became friendly.
Has anyone else ever encountered that stare?

English

@FrenlyOfficer Pacifier. But “binky” has become popular now that pacifism is out of vogue.
English

@eastbaycitizen And what did you report about that? What did your investigations show?

Someone built ultrasonic scanning on a tiny microcontroller and it’s seriously impressive
Using Arduino, an ultrasonic sensor + a servo motor turns into a mini radar system:
→ scans surroundings in a sweep
→ detects objects in real time
→ measures distance with sound waves
→ builds a simple spatial map
As the sensor rotates, it continuously emits ultrasonic pulses
When those waves hit an object, they bounce back and the time delay is used to calculate distance
That data is then plotted into a live radar-style visualization, just like what you’d see in real systems
No expensive hardware
No complex setup
Just smart use of simple components.
What makes it even cooler:
→ runs on a tiny microcontroller
→ low power, low cost
→ easy to build and customize
→ great intro to embedded systems + robotics
This is the kind of project that shows: you don’t need massive compute to build something powerful
Small device. Smart sensing. Real engineering

@BasedMikeLee Because racism is prejudice + power and this bald man has no power

Great… now there’s absolutely no reason for Mexicans to illegally immigrate to America.
Pubity@pubity
Mexico's President just made a life-changing decree, giving every Mexican universal health care. Their goal is for everyone in Mexico to have access to healthcare if they need it, regardless of income, and it'll be fully rolled out by 2028.
English

@BladeoftheS I thought Mexicans were always “we’re America, the whole continent is America, jejeje” so why complain?

Man is freaking out because he’s at the grocery store and he shows that all the items he normally buys now say they’re ineligible for EBT
The grocery store has put up these new little signs by items saying they’re no longer eligible for Food Stamps
“It’s happening. What am I gonna drink now? Not eligible. What is going on man, what we supposed to drink now? Not eligible. Not eligible”
Life hack: If you have a job and use your debt card, it’s all eligible to be purchased

@ProfNoahGian The Sasquatch locus arises naturally within the Chupacabra algebra
English

Why is so much pop math writing like “the formula involves addition—an operation where the values of numbers are combined, as in 5+3=8—and an operation called semi Hodge-theoretic polydiaginonal neo-Riemannian integration. Surprisingly, the authors proved that this formula is quasi-invertible when the Sasquatch locus is sufficiently homogeneous.”
Who is your intended audience?!
So much of pop math writing assumes we don’t know the basics yet somehow care about the unintelligible minutiae of super advanced obscure topics…

@tszzl @elonmusk @CantEverDie WTF??? Who are you calling a disgusting liar. And do you know this person Well enough personally to say that? That comment is pretty hostile. Maybe you need psychological help.

@perpsx @aakashgupta Hilarious cope. Nobody would choose a longer charging time all else being equal. And if it were Western brands people would be crowing all over about how superior their technology was.
English

The number that should terrify every Western automaker is 1,500 kW.
BYD's Flash Charging pushes 1,500 kilowatts into a car battery. The fastest charger you can find in the US today maxes out at 350 kW. ChargePoint is bragging about rolling out 600 kW chargers sometime in 2026. BYD is already at 2.5x that. Deployed. 5,000 stations live. 20,000 planned by December.
The car in this video, the Song Ultra, starts at $22,000. Five minutes of charging gets you 250 miles of range. The fastest-charging EV you can buy in America is the Lucid Gravity at 400 kW, and it starts at $80,000.
So BYD is charging 4x faster at one-quarter the price. And Geely just beat them last week with a 4-minute charge. The Chinese automakers aren't competing with each other on range or styling anymore. They're in a charging speed war that Western companies haven't even entered.
BMW's response was literally "pursuing quick charging forces other compromises." That's the "640K ought to be enough for anybody" of the EV era.

@gregkellyusa I always like it when a leftist gets fucked over
English

I Never liked Eric Swalwell. “Fang Fang”-running for President when he was 19, to “moonlighting” as a model for the SEARS Catalogue-he’s just Awful. BUT when someone is ACCUSED by an ANONYMOUS Person the week before an election? That is NOT RIGHT. They say the “assault” happened in 2024? Two years ago? Why not GO TO THE COPS right after it happened? And dont give me that “I couldn’t. He’s too powerful” nonsense. They pulled this CRAP on Trump. IT was wrong then, It’s Wrong Now. Even when it involves the Silly Eric Swalwell. JUSTICE.

English

@DefiyantlyFree It is common sense. Reality is the left prefers the jobs gone and the people who’d have them on the government dole instead.
