What's it called when you're scrolling endlessly on social media during a crisis, not because you want to keep reading all the depressing/angry posts, but because you're hoping someone out there still has posts of cute puppies or amazing food or witty quotes

@etrade FYI, I wouldn't mind being on hold for 40 minutes if I didn't have to listen to this horrible hold music. Makes me never want to call again. Not sure if that's the goal.

@SlackHQ “Peter, turn off your screen share!” Is more urgent and timely than “How’d you like the last episode of Mando?” But there is no way for the sender to articulate that or for me to configure slack to treat those differently.

@peterchester Interesting idea, Peter! Would this be similar to the message the sender receives when someone has Do Not Disturb enabled and their notifications are paused?

When someone at work urgently needs my attention Slack offers no UX for the sender or for me to differentiate from the 20 other non-urgent notifications

@SlackHQ TBH, I wonder if really what’s missing is 2 levels of notification UX. I have a lot of red dots all the time. But only one or two are real timely issues. They get lost in the sea of other notifications

@SlackHQ Yes however, the sender needs to be able to control if they want to interrupt the receiver during regular times.

I believe that if you solved for that, Slack would be vastly less disruptive at work and more useful.

I want to be able to message a channel and cause people in the channel to know there is something important that they should not miss without instantaneously alerting people and causing them to drop everything. But occasionally, and it’s super rare, I also want to alert everyone!

I want to be able to message someone without asking that they drop everything. But sometimes I need them to drop everything.
