@jakeglmn Don’t pee at 3am? As a 52 year old woman, this made me lol. Fine. I’ll pee the bed and spend time the next day washing sheets and scrubbing my mattress. Before or after work? Depends on the day. And buying air fresheners so my bedroom doesn’t smell like a homeless shelter.

@IamKingWilliams Cheetah Lounge flew a plane with a banner over the stadium offering free admission with a ticket stub. Did the same at Georgia Tech football games.

@TechManGT You need one or two great players per year. Other than recent success we have the city, the facilities, the conference and name recognition to be successful. Why not us?

Really bizarre ending to Damon’s career here. Had a semi-decent start and gradually improved over his first two seasons, recruited really well, but then with that talent accumulated this year he absolutely bombed. He had to go. I understand Tech isn’t investing as much into the bball program now (and that’s 1000% the right decision for football to get the majority of the pie), but all I ask is that the damn bball team is consistently in the mix in the ACC and just makes the ncaa tourney every few years. Is that too damn much to ask?!
Pete Thamel@PeteThamel

Sources: Georgia Tech is dismissing coach Damon Stoudamire, who went 42-55 in three seasons, per me and @jeffborzello. Tech (11-20, 2-16) ended on a 12-game losing streak. Tech officials are steadfast they remain committed to resourcing the program at a competitive level.

Considering the context and circumstances – with the slim chance based on precedent that a 162-game suspension isn't forthcoming – I can confident say that Jurickson Profar is the worst free-agent signing in #Braves history.

Leeds United certainly not out of this. Have had their chances - Calvert-Lewin and Aaronson. Just punished when Manchester City accelerated for Antoine Semenyo’s goal. Another thing: Leeds have a famously passionate support. But those fans booing City players as they broke their fast embarrassed themselves and their great club. #LEEMCI

A lot of talk about MLB stadium setups in downtown but there’s so many minor league ballparks that are incredible city setups. • Louisville Slugger Field, Louisville AAA Louisville Bats (CIN) • Truist Field, Charlotte AAA Charlotte Knights (CWS) • Victory Field, Indianapolis AAA Indianapolis Indians (PIT) • AutoZone Park, Memphis AAA Memphis Redbirds (STL) Triple-A parks doing it right.

This view reflects a total misunderstanding of what Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will do. AGI, by definition, means AI systems that can do _every_ cognitive and behavioral task at least as well as humans can, to an economically competitive level. That means that any 'new jobs' created by AI-driven 'prosperity' will be learned faster by AGI than by humans. Yes, there will be 'new jobs'. For AGIs. Not for humans. If you don't understand why this is different from previous waves of automation, you really shouldn't be claiming that the 'AI jobs apocalypse' is fake news.

The “AI jobs apocalypse” narrative is everywhere right now. History has a 200-year track record of proving this prediction wrong. Every. Single. Time. The ATM didn’t destroy bank tellers. The internet didn’t destroy everything. The PC and internet era destroyed 3.5M jobs — and created 19M. AI won’t replace people. It replaces tasks. The real divide won’t be AI vs. humans. It’ll be between people who learn to use AI as leverage for their unique expertise… and people who sat on the sidelines waiting for someone to tell them it was safe. This isn’t the AI apocalypse. It’s the biggest adaptation opportunity of our lifetimes.

Belgium’s long-awaited Gare de Mons is (finally) open. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the $374M structure is intended to act as a ‘monumental bridge’ stretching for 160-metres over the station platforms and connecting Mons’ historic centre with new urban developments to the south. The project was first unveiled 19 years ago in 2006, but has been plagued by budget overruns and delays. Construction works eventually started in 2013 but the station’s original 2015 completion date then went on to slip by a decade to 2025. The design’s white ribs has echoes of The Oculus at New York’s World Trade Center, which was also designed by Calatrava. 📷 Santiago Calatrava LLC / Oliver Schuh

Cloudflare uses lava lamps for their encryption. No, I am not kidding. In their San Francisco office, Cloudflare has a wall filled with lava lamps with cameras pointed at them 24/7. At random intervals, a picture is taken, and that image is sent to the Cloudflare servers. That is then turned into a series of numbers that is then turned into an encryption key. You're probably wondering "Why not just have a computer do it." Well, computers are actually really bad at making things random. They follow patterns, and those patterns are easy for hackers to figure out. Thus making Cloudflare susceptible. So the solution is the real world. Nature is random. Wild, dare I say. If these giant tech companies see the value in the wild and natural and random, you should too. ;)

I'm in a suburban Starbucks. It's absolutely slammed. Like 12 cars in the drive-thru, 8 employees running around, and almost every chair taken. Crazy when something like this happens while the news says Starbucks is dying. (I know anecdotes don't trump data, but sometimes..)
