@ctdonath @NaughtalieStone @SHL0MS I mean, yes, because at that point you’re engaging in some kind of pseudo forgery. The interesting thing happening here is that it’s on our phones, that’s the contextual game. Otherwise the question you’re posing is: “what do people think of my fake Monet that I didn’t paint?”

I can certainly generate a pseudo-Monet image with AI, extrude it to a 3D model to emulate physical paint, print as a relief sculpture, inkjet the image into that surface, frame it, and hang that “painting” on a wall for others to experience.
I do have an early AI image with intent to print on canvas and hang on a wall. Maybe I will this weekend given your post.
Does that meaningfully change your objection?

The anti-AI people here, and the "UGH if I must be bothered to point out something so OBVIOUS" tone, are, perhaps ironically, solidifying my expectation of a whole lotta lunch eating coming up in the arts

A dissertation could be written on this George W. Bush self-portrait in which Bush's reflection makes eye contact not with Bush the subject, but instead with Bush the painter (and us). Psychologically deep, I think.

@ranavain @hecubian_devil I don’t think LLMs substantively add anything to the creative process. The point is the process is the process, whatever inefficiencies there are in the creative process are responsible for the vision and idiosyncrasies of the result. It helps learning in a more tangible way

@phantasmosis @hecubian_devil We already live in a world that doesn't especially reward (financially or socially) creativity, yet people are creative anyway, because its a thing we like to do. I don't think the fact that an LLM can "create" a "painting" will reduce the number of painters or their creativity

@NeoDogmaX @hecubian_devil I would probably argue it’s more often than not right wingers who say “it’s here and it’s not going away, learn to use it, etc etc” leftists are more likely to engage with things like long form/difficult artworks, which aren’t sports but reward process and journey in the same way

@u_m_a_m_i All artists are salesman to some degree but beeple is more of a salesman than an artist. His work is basically memes, which would be interesting if the guy behind them had a thought in his head outside of ingratiating himself to wealthy tech people
