it's extremely weird when stories add a lot of filler prose and details when like, we can just read the Fanwikis for that kind of content. That's why they exist. I expect stories to respect my time investment and not waste it with Datalog materials interrupting the active plot.

Small towns just mean stuff like job opportunities or other forms of personal or material growth are either based even more on luck or connections than usual, because the pool is smaller by default.

I feel a lot of people romanticize small towns. People formed these towns out of economic opportunity. It would be foolish to assume that it would last forever as the economy changed. It's sad that these places died, but there wasn't much left to save to begin with.

I never believe anyone who makes some sort of metaphysical case for why small town’s die. It doesn’t have anything to do with poetry or psychology or whatever. It’s industry. Towns die because there’s no industry, no material harvesting, no fishing when there once was.
