@TenthAmendment Yep, our problem isn't the guys "at the top" it's the guys in the middle who say "yes, boss" to do things to people with no power/authority. No belief in love your neighbor as yourself, either. BTW, the only neighbors in the story are the samaritan, the beaten man, and innkeeper.

The politics of war has changed in the US. Typically, at the beginning of a war, the rally-around-the-flag effect triggers massive spikes in approval; disapproval comes later. But Trump's action already w/o majority support for all but BoomerCons.

Maduro is a bad guy. That doesn’t change the fact that this was a completely unconstitutional move.
The fact that other U.S. presidents have done similar things and everyone looked the other way does not change the fact that this was an unconstitutional move.
By arguing that the outcome makes it worth it, or in other words “the ends justify the means,” you aren’t simply justifying Trumps move on Venezuela.
You’re justifying the U.S. government doing unconstitutional things because a certain percentage of the country agrees with the outcome. If that sounds familiar.. it should. It’s why we’re in this mess in the first place.

THE BIG LIE ABOUT Thomas Jefferson vs the Barbary pirates is a very common one.
Pres. Jefferson got approval from Congress multiple times before going on the offense against the Pasha of Tripoli - despite the fact that war had already been officially declared against the United States. There was ONE defensive naval battle in 1801, and because the US had yet to get approval from congress, the Captain of the USS Enterprise ordered the enemy ship disarmed, throwing its guns overboard, and then released the crew and the ship.

James Madison - waited TWO FULL YEARS to request and get approval from Congress to go on the offense against Algiers. And even waited for approval from congress against the British who were actively waging war on the US

Kinda like both Jefferson and Madison needed to await Congressional approval before launching reprisals against the Barbary States, right? Oh, wait… neither President waited until Congress authorized them to send the Marines “to the shores of Tripoli”, did they? Maybe this is because those distinguished gentlemen knew that the restrictions you claim are on presidential actions don’t exist anywhere in the actual text of the Constitution. You have, in fact, made them up out of whole cloth.
