@TheRobertBshow *their *bachelor’s degree (possessive, no caps) *Alumni Also, it’s arguably better to refer to a fellowship “in which” people earn degrees, rather than the more locative “where.” None of this matters terribly unless you are proposing to educate people.

There is undeniably a biblical prophecy containing a special blessing for White people. If you don’t like it, take it up with God. For those who aren’t so easily offended, here’s an explanation. 👇 Noah’s prophecy in Genesis 9 covers the entire sweep of Western history in three sentences. The European peoples would be enlarged by God, would come to occupy the covenant inheritance of Israel, and would exercise authority over the pagan populations of the Middle East. Anglo-Saxons and Caucasians are in the prophetic canon, named by a prophet who stood on the slopes of Ararat centuries before their civilizations existed. Don’t blame us for that claim. That’s Biblical prophecy. Noah got off the boat, prophesied to his sons, and prophesied that Japheth’s lineage - Europeans and Caucasians - would be greater than the Semitic ancestors of Shem, and would one day take their place. Barnes’ Notes commentary says that Noah’s prophecy, “refers not only to the territory and the multitude of the Japhethites, but also to their intellectual and active faculties. The metaphysics of the Hindoos, the philosophy of the Greeks, the military prowess of the Romans, and the modern science and civilization of the world, are due to the race of Japheth.” Matthew Henry noted that “Japheth’s prosperity peopled all Europe, a great part of Asia, and perhaps America,” and John Gill traced the fulfillment through the Greeks and Romans, observing that Japheth’s sons “made conquests in Asia, in which were the tents of Shem’s posterity.” These were not kooky interpreters reading their cultural assumptions into the text. They were the mainstream of Protestant biblical scholarship, and they read Genesis 9:27 as a prophecy whose fulfillment was visible in the history of Western civilization. *Read the article at our website by using the link in my bio.

It is my impression from a study of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament (cf. The Holy Spirit: Shy Member of the Trinity)7 that the true humanity of Jesus Christ is one of the two major “lectures” of the Holy Spirit. (The other lecture is, in Paul’s words, the Spirit’s teaching us to say that “Jesus is Lord” (i.e., divine, 1 Cor 12:3). To put this in another way, the Holy Spirit does two major works: first, the Spirit brings Christ down to earth and makes him human; second, the Spirit lifts Christ up and shows Jesus’ divinity. In other words, the Holy Spirit is a good theologian and gives two main courses: The True Humanity of Jesus Christ the first semester and The True Divinity of Jesus Christ the second. . . . It is the work of the Holy Spirit, in either course, to bring Jesus Christ into human lives.8 The Holy Spirit has been called the shy and humble member of the Trinity because it is his divine task to help us exalt the Father and the Son.9 So yes, I believe in the Holy Spirit! I say that with some conviction, even charisma. I hope you can say the same. The role of the Holy Spirit in the conception of Christ—what a wonderful truth to think about on Christmas! It is as obvious as the moon but so often unobserved and undervalued. -Preaching Through Matthew series

So my encouragement to pastors, especially to younger ones, is this: Do not despise ordinary faithfulness. Do not become addicted to visibility. Do not mistake audience for authority. And do not become a vagabond minister. Love an actual people. Build an actual household. Serve an actual church. Stay somewhere long enough for people to really know you. Stay somewhere long enough to suffer. Stay somewhere long enough to be inconvenienced. Stay somewhere long enough that your ministry can no longer survive on image alone. Because eventually every platform fades. Every movement cools. Every conference circuit changes. But faithful shepherding, faithful households, faithful churches, and faithful local communities, those things endure. #notes

@phredhope @chxnluh That's not a cheap shot. You guys are the University of South Carolina. If you ask 100 random people across the country to name the college team called, USC, 95+ would say Southern Cal. Only South Carolina fans in the Southeast, refer to the Gamecocks as USC. Sorry, My Guy.

In 2019, South Carolina was a 24.5 point underdog vs Georgia. They won the game in overtime. It’s one of the biggest upsets in SEC history and the last time Georgia lost a home game. They kept UGA out of the playoffs. It means nothing in a 24-team format.

I am wrapping up a Sunday School year in Revelation (from an amillennial perspective with thanks to GK Beale). This is my second time teaching the book and what I noticed is how evil always turns in on its own. Once the reader understands the pattern is obvious everywhere.

Evangelicalism has had a "big name" problem since at least George Whitefield. None of us are necessary for the work of the gospel, I don't care how "well spoken" you are or how many people you have "helped". We are dispensable men serving the indispensable Gospel.
Bethel McGrew@BMcGrewvy

As a reminder something sort of like the Sam Allberry debacle happened with Tullian Tchividjian in a straight context. Among other things this is about evangelical churches' no-good very bad habit of making sure dubiously qualified guys with social capital can "do ministry."

Here are the three main problems with the gay celibate Christian movement. They... 1. Deny the goodness of shame. 2. Deny the sinfulness of effeminacy. 3. Deny the sinfulness of unnatural desires that arise from within man. Consequently, they... - Delay and reject marriage, though they lack the gift of celibacy. - Create a category of same-sex intimacy that they claim is aesthetic and not erotic, which sets them up to act on their desires. - Rob homosexual and/or SSA Christians of hope.

This is a blockhead statement. This isn’t about saying “I told you so.” It’s about the fact that we warned the church this was a dangerous departure from Scripture, that it would lead to real consequences. And when we said it, we were treated like we were harsh, unloving, or theologically off. We weren’t. We were doing our job. We warned. That warning was ignored, dismissed, or mocked. This is the same pattern again. There are people who want to act like they’re more loving, more understanding, because they refuse to connect theology to behavioral outcomes. They’re not more compassionate. They’re just unwilling to do the hard work of pastoral ministry.
Jared@RevJaredJones

I think posting "I told you so" when a pastor resigns and has admitted his sin is one of the grosser things that happens on this app, and its always the same people who do it.

@PastorAndyWebb First, the statement isn't specific enough for you to compare it with adultery. Second, your ideas about unnatural sexual sin vs "ordinary adultery" are suspicious to me. Which seminary taught you that?

Can you imagine a Bible-believing church hearing from a pastoral candidate that he had engaged in an adulterous relationship with a congregant's wife two years prior to applying to be their pastor and simply saying, "Not a Problem!" and then making him in their new pastor? Of course not. However, the whole "Side B" mentality imports a false view of sexual sin into the church. It takes a sin that is considered worse in Scripture than ordinary adultery because it's an unnatural sexual sin and makes it far less serious than heterosexual violations of the 7th Commandment.
