This is good advice, local agents care more about you and are more likley to help you out than a call center in India. Farm Bureau generally has great prices as well as good local agents. The only downsides in NC are their high pressure life sales tactics and subpar homeowners policies (HO3).

While we're on the topic of insurance (I originally wasn't, but it seems a whole lot of people use USAA for insurance, and are looking to switch): Best advice I can give you is to look for a company that has local agents. Someone who is assigned to your policy, whose office you can walk into, whose hand you can shake. Insurance companies that have dedicated local agents assigned to their customers tend to be better, in my experience. It's entirely anecdotal, but when the person you're dealing with lives in your community, is the same person you deal with every time you pick up the phone, and has to accept the fact that they may have to interact with you face-to-face, you get better service. Two I can think of off the top of my head are your local state Farm Bureau (e.g., Texas Farm Bureau, South Carolina Farm Bureau, etc.) and State Farm (yes, they both have "farm" in the name, but that's mostly where the resemblance stops. Your local state Farm Bureau is actually dedicated to and working with your local farmers. State Farm may have been at one point long ago, but that hasn't been their primary mission in a good long while). For myself and my family, we use our local state Farm Bureau. We have auto, homeowner, and a million-dollar umbrella policy with them. The service is excellent. For example, one time (for whatever reason) my autopay for my monthly auto coverage didn't go through. A few days after the deadline, my agent called me. Not to harangue me for the payment, but genuinely concerned about whether or not I was okay, since I always paid on time. It's nice to get a wellness check instead of a payment past due harassment call.

Last week liberals had a melt down over a Confederate Flag flying proudly in the wind on Lake Norman and visible from I-77. A couple of libs even called NC SHP and 911 to report the flag, then expressed outrage that the cops wouldn’t do anything. I realize this is a shock to Yankee transplants and West Coasters. But if you get off the interstates and drive across the Carolinas on secondary roads you’ll quickly realize these flags are pretty darn common. Trust me no one’s going to steal your children or burn a cross in your front yard. In the South people continue to fly the Confederate flag primarily as a symbol of Southern heritage, local pride, and regional identity, often honoring ancestors who fought in the Civil War. Others use it to represent rebellion, cherished rural lifestyle, or a desire for limited government. But be warned it is also a flashing reminder that FA/FO applies big time in rural Carolinas. Y’all come back now ya hear!

@pillar_fire @DolioJ A pistol will be 100% manufacturer original parts. No U.S. substitute furniture, muzzle devices, trigger groups etc. The most important parts are the guts. Bolts, trunnions, rivets. This is where U.S. AK's fail.

@pillar_fire @DolioJ Neither are cheap, but the Zastava m92 zpap has a good reputation. My favorite is the Arsenal Sam7k. The benefit of buying import pistols is that you are getting weapons completely intact from the factory without the mandatory substitution of American parts for import.

I should probably keep my mouth shut, but what the hell. Here goes: The split we're witnessing right now between "Israel is evil" and "Israel can do no wrong" camps is illustrative of an absolutely massive amount of very successful propaganda on both sides, that has tendrils extending into just about every facet of life and psyche. It touches on race relations, religion, economics, geopolitics, governance, crime, family life, military service, the history of this country, the prosecution of two world wars and multiple bloody revolutions across the world, and millennia of ancient blood-feuds. The problem is that one side has made it nigh impossible, and in many places illegal, to even have a reasoned, rational discussion about the factors influencing this. Intentionally. With great effect. A sane person is forced to question why these conversations aren't allowed to occur. Don't believe they're not allowed? Try it. You'll be shouted down, often by both sides. Keep it up, you'll be persecuted, if not prosecuted.
