Shocking. Racist. Derogatory. Norway’s largest broadsheet newspaper Aftenposten brazens it out with a shocking cartoon depicting Indian PM @narendramodi as a Snake Charmer with the headline: “A sneaky and slightly annoying man”. They can’t digest India’s rise and success. Pity!

Interesting: suddenly when PM is speaking on women’s reservation, Parliament camera is focussing on the galleries, a rarity in today’s times. Guess why? This is where women have been brought in by various Government bodies to watch the proceedings today to give a ‘nari shakti’ flavour . If only we had as many women MPs actually inside a male-dominated parliament without any need for reservation. For now, it’s fine political optics and grand-standing by most of the speakers. 🙏

Satyendra Dubey, IIT Kanpur grad and IES officer, was posted to oversee the Golden Quadrilateral highway in Jharkhand. He uncovered contractors using substandard materials, faking bills, and siphoning public funds. In 2003, he wrote to PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's office exposing it all, begging for anonymity. The PMO leaked his name. On Nov 27, 2003 (his 30th birthday), he was shot dead in Gaya while taking a rickshaw home after a train ride. CBI probe concluded it was a robbery gone wrong: three petty criminals—Mantu Kumar (who fired the country-made pistol), Udai Kumar, and Pinku Ravidas—robbed him and killed him in the scuffle. They were convicted in 2010 and sentenced to life. His family and many believe the real masterminds (tied to the exposed contractors) got away. His sacrifice pushed India to pass the RTI Act (2005) and Whistleblowers Protection Act (2014).

His name was Satyendra Dubey. He topped Bihar in Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. He cleared JEE and went to IIT Kanpur. He joined the Indian Engineering Service. In 2002 he was posted as Project Director at the National Highways Authority of India in Jharkhand. His job was to oversee the Golden Quadrilateral highway project. India’s biggest infrastructure project at the time. What he found was shocking. Substandard materials. Inflated bills. Contractors looting public money. He wrote a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office exposing everything. He asked for one thing. That his identity be kept secret. The PMO leaked his name. On November 27 2003 he was shot dead in Gaya Bihar. He was 27 years old. Two years later India passed the Right to Information Act. Ten years later India passed the Whistleblowers Protection Act. Both laws exist because of Satyendra Dubey. He never got to see either of them.

Karnataka BJP president @BYVijayendra said he opposes MLAs seeking IPL tickets. "We are no different from common citizens & should not seek special privileges," he said. Citing the tragedy that claimed 11 lives, he termed such demands insensitive. "When that is still fresh in our minds, asking for passes is not right,".

A day after speaker UT Khader asked Karnataka govt to allot four premium tickets to each MLA amid complaints against KSCA, president Venkatesh Prasad met CM @siddaramaiah & @DKShivakumar as Bengaluru gears up to host IPL inaugural match on Saturday.

This picture says more than a thousand words. It captures, in one frame, what our political culture has been reduced to. A national icon like Venkatesh Prasad, a man who brought pride to India, whose spells against Pakistan are etched permanently in our collective memory, is today standing with folded hands before a Chief Minister. Why? Not for any wrongdoing. Not for any failure of duty. But simply because he did his job. Because he did not anticipate that the brittle egos of politicians would be bruised. Because he did not bend to a culture that expects free tickets, special treatment, and unquestioned entitlement. This is the tragedy. When those who have served the nation with excellence are made to stand in deference, and those in public office demand privilege over accountability, something has gone fundamentally wrong. This is not just about one incident. This is about a deeper decay. A political class that sees power as entitlement, not responsibility should go. A system where excellence bows, and arrogance sits should go. A new generation of political class is badly needed at all levels. If this does not disturb us, nothing will. India deserves better. For whatever it is worth, I stand with @venkateshprasad. And I know, millions will.
