Looking at what's happening to Germany's economy really makes you feel like you're taking crazy pills. So here we have Europe's largest economy facing "irreversible decline" (bloomberg.com/news/features/…) and everyone openly acknowledges the main cause: "the loss of cheap Russian energy" making German manufacturing collapse and leaving all households poorer. Yet political correctness means no-one discusses the painfully obvious solution: restoring the flow of cheap Russian energy. It's like watching someone die of dehydration while experts hold conferences discussing 'long-term fluid management strategies' and write white papers on 'adapting to the new water-scarce paradigm' - all while studiously avoiding any mention of the full glass of water sitting right there on the patient's nightstand. Worse yet, this isn't something Russia initiated: our dehydrated patient himself chose to stop drinking (with a little help from an anonymous friend who destroyed a pipeline...). In the long history of nations rising and falling, I think you'll be hard pressed to find another instance of a leading industrial power actively choosing to sabotage its own prosperity like this - with full awareness of the consequences.
