The Nairobi Development/Zoning Policy (which has still remained in draft form for many years🤦♂️) lists the area where those plots are as Zone 13A. Under “NO. OF LEVELS/SKYLINE”, the value is listed as “Single Dwelling”, with the description: “One-family dwelling house, institutions, hotels.”
That seems to suggest hotels like Silva are allowed in the area, and may also explain why the UN has been permitted to construct multi-storey buildings there.

This is Stellar Bay, a proposed 30-floor residential tower coming up along Mpaka Road in Westlands targeting investors, young professionals, and the short-stay/Airbnb market. It’s being built on the former Westlands Post Office block.

With plans now underway for a major new JKIA terminal, we hope it feels unmistakably Kenyan.
Some airports are memorable because they feel connected to the place they are in. You land once and the architecture, materials, lighting, even the atmosphere stays with you.
PDX is a great example of this. It would be nice to see Kenya’s main gateway lean into that kind of identity and character.

Nairobi prices can make coastal land feel almost cheap.
In many Nairobi suburbs, an acre now goes for KSh 100M to 500M+. Meanwhile, places like Kilifi, Watamu, Malindi, and Diani are still trading far below that, sometimes with ocean views included.
You can understand why more Nairobi buyers are considering the coast.

Almost every week for close to three years now, I have been highlighting the pathetic state of Westlands and its environs to the relevant authorities, from @047County to @KURAroads and @KeNHAKenya , yet to date, no meaningful action has been taken. I even went a step further and engaged my brother @MuriraKinoti personally, very objectively. At first, it all seemed positive. The confidence, assurances and promises made gave the impression that someone was genuinely concerned and willing to act. Unfortunately, it seems the kitchen got too hot and he chose to bolt. Like I always say, we must stop celebrating mediocrity and accepting poor standards and poor service. We are the employers. We are the taxpayers. We deserve better. It is what it is. They should consider using concrete on the stretch of road from Chiromo to Westlands, and from Westlands to Kempinski Hotel Nairobi to help prevent these kinds of problems during heavy rains. The road should also be beautified, with proper pedestrian walkways.
