Today would have been Bradley Lowery's 15th birthday. A young Sunderland fan who captured all of our hearts. We are proud to welcome his family and his team to Hill Dickinson Stadium this afternoon. @Bradleysfight 💙❤️ @SunderlandAFC

@JamTarts As a neutral that looked like the game was abandoned to me. Surely action will have to be taken?

A brilliant article from Stewarts, the UK's largest litigation-only law firm, who consider the appropriate sanction to be imposed on Southampton if the club is found guilty of spying. Well worth a read. #Boro | #UTB | #SaintsFC stewartslaw.com/news/spy-games…

Spygate: ever more mortifying by the day, and as a Saints fan I'll accept without question whatever sanction the independent panel hand down. We broke the rules. But is there ANYONE in the world (aside from Man City fans) who think it's long overdue that we have a 115 verdict?

@DomShawEcho Presumably the evidence the Boro reference has been passed on to the EFL to press the case? I get the club wanting to be in the room but is the suggestion that the evidence won't be used if they aren't? You'd assume not!

🚨 Full story as #Boro call for Southampton to be kicked out of the play-offs, saying expulsion is the 'only appropriate response'. Club also tell of 'regret' at being denied opportunity to present 'factual evidence and competitive impact' at hearing thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/26111399…

@WanyneKing @rossutb88 Boro reported a breach of EFL regulations. EFL charged Southampton. Boro have absolutely no say in whatever is decided by the independent panel. I think maybe you're conflating what some people think or want on here with reality. Just have to wait for the outcome.

@rossutb88 Absolutely fair comment from the bloke. Boro trying to get the playoffs cancelled. Breaking that “utmost faith” rule against both Southampton and Hull

Genuinely, if you give Southampton a £1M fine, watch nearly every team in the EFL take their chance knowing how much the reward is for promotion 😅
slbsn@slbsn

🚨🤓 Southampton Spygate personal view: 1. Expect the breaches will be straightforward to establish (ie liability) and almost certainly admitted to try and get some sanction credit/discount 2. Expect aggravating factors such as other examples of Soton spying this year to be raised 3. Fundamental question of how serious a breach of rule 127 and good faith is will be key. We know good faith alone was £200k in the Leeds case. The new rule makes it worse and spying obviously seeks a sporting advantage - why else do it? So that does point to sporting sanction of some sort 4. Being thrown out of the Play Offs appears excessive especially given Southampton finished 7 points clear of 6th and 9 clear of 7th 5. A 3-0 in the first leg would have been an option again excessive retrospectively unless 2nd leg re-playable (not feasible) 6. More likely sanction is points deduction next season in the Championship as much as that won't help Middlesboro 7. Unlikely that the PL will take a points deduction recommendation from the EFL (no fixed rule) - doubt EFL will push for it, so would apply in first season back in Championship (when and if) 8. My best guess is SIX EFL points in first season in EFL and £500k-£1m fine 9. Boro compensation claim can be dealt with separately subject to any claim brought by Boro - difficult claim to establish due to causation issues

@boro_alex2 Indeed. How many times does it have to be proven to have happened during the regular season in matches they picked up points from for Wrexham to have a genuine grievance? I think this could get a lot messier.

@officialandyb24 I see what you’re saying but I think it gets too hard to litigate in sporting terms if there’s concrete proof they’ve been doing it all season (they may have but proving it seems unlikely). Would imagine it’d end up in court.

Whether it be FFP or Spying… it’s cheating your way to a multimillion pound prize… do Sheff Wed, Leicester and West Brom have grounds to appeal if the punishment handed out to the Spies isn’t strong enough? This could open up a huge can of worms. 2 of those teams went down!

@ChrisCollis19 @EFL_Comms A large chunk of the fanbase, myself included, agree and were hoping for as much in January. Don't see how our form or performance in the game is relevant to the allegations of cheating though!

@JCapps_ you clearly don't know much about the Boro's chairman haha. He would still have gone after them, abide it would've saved EFL a headache granted

Maybe if Boro just beat Saints like Derby did Leeds and did their job it wouldn’t be as big an issues 😬😬

Seems like a huge deal is being made of the spying by Southampton compared to when Leeds did it at Derby? They go fined and move on? Why is it all of a sudden has it became any different?

@JCapps_ it was introed as a subclause of the rules after and because of the Leeds thing. Leeds broke a rule about behaving with the "upmost good faith" towards Derby. There's now another rule specific to this situation, so the Leeds one can't be considered a precedent.

I think it’s always forgotten how young Conway is, he’s younger than Hackney and still room to grow, hopefully next season we can improve our attack which will get even more out of him #boro

🔴 Spying before 1st leg 🔴 Throwing objects at our bus 🔴 HB saying discriminative words to Ayling 🔴 Ball boys sitting on the ball. Far prouder to be on the losing side with my club tonight, than be on the winning side of theirs. EFL, do whats right. 👊 #UTB

@StokeyyG2 I think if they’re found guilty a 3-0 forfeit of the first game is the fair punishment, given the specifics of the broken rule. A bit different to just kicking them out but the correct precedent to set I think, and obv the same impact this time

Right okay… This is a BIG IF but IF Southampton do get done for their ‘spygate scandal’ and actually kicked out the playoffs, do Hull just go to the Premier League or do Boro take their place?

Middlesbrough had 21 shots & 51 touches in opp box vs Southampton, and didn’t score. 32 shots & 66 touches in opp box vs Millwall, and lost the game. 34 shots & 86 touches in the opp box vs Charlton, didn’t score and lost the game. Sign of a incredibly well coached team, who create for fun, but struggle at times to make the most of incredible amount of efforts they have. Mental.
