@notgaetti It’s not a take, it was common practice in the 70s and it’s heavily regulated now. I’m simply answering why horses don’t come near those times now. I’m not even addressing your take that a human athlete was better in the 70s.

We officially have the first “Secretariat was juicing!” take on my timeline 💀💀💀
Paul Monroe@pmonr

@notgaetti There weren’t steroid regulations on horses back then, no there are a lot of very strict regulations on it. Next question?

A lot of people think it’s impossible that Nolan Ryan in 1974 could have thrown the fastest pitch in MLB history, simply because they assume today’s athletes are all bigger, faster, and stronger. Can Those People also explain Secretariat’s records from 1973 remaining untouched?
Not Gaetti@notgaetti

According to science, Nolan Ryan’s fastest pitch was 108.5 mph. I suppose it’s no wonder why he has the most: • no-hitters • one-hitters • two-hitters • three-hitters • 200-K seasons • 300-K seasons • strikeouts in a year • strikeouts in a career

Just a reminder that we are well into the 2026 MLB season and @TheAthletic still does not have a writer for the St. Louis Cardinals. A team with 11 World Series title and one of the most passionate fan bases in all of sports. However, they have multiple writers for other teams.

@jmjones Home run rate allowed was almost 5x higher for lefties. Lefties slugged 80 points higher. They also had higher on base percentage. The more you look into this the more baffling it is.

@jmjones Last year lefties had higher average against him the righties. OPS was higher for lefties as well. So the matchup statement is disingenuous

To answer the most common question and source of rage: Cardinals and Marmol are big believers both in making sure players get days off before they’re strictly necessary, as well as stacking them with off days. That, with the pitching matchup on top, accounts for Wetherholt.
Jeff Jones@jmjones

Masyn Winn is in the lineup and leading off with JJ Wetherholt’s first off day: Winn 6 Herrera 2 Burleson 3 Urías 5 Walker 9 Pozo DH Saggese 4 Fermín 7 Scott II 8 McGreevy 1

@joshjaco98 This is the type of lineup I knew was coming, but still dreaded. I can handle a rebuild, but these lineups still make my heart ache for the 1985 lineup, or the 2004 lineup.

@Cardinals when will I be able to order a jersey for my kid? They’ve been sold out for a while in the youth sizes online besides Arenado.

@DealinTheCards I went to order a baby blue jersey for a kid with Wetherholt’s name on it and they don’t have a single jersey in kids small, medium, or large. How do the @Cardinals let this happen? It’s a down year in revenue and I’m trying to throw money at them and I can’t.

@KareemSSN As an older baseball fan I wish these new metrics had a key. At least something comparing to the average. Otherwise it’s jus numbers I pretend to understand

Starting rotation for St. Louis to start the year: Matthew Liberatore (LHP) Michael McGreevy (RHP) Dustin May (RHP) Kyle Leahy (RHP) Andre Pallante (RHP) So the @Cardinals have their guys lined up for the start of the 2026 season. Exciting stuff. #STLCards

It’s so refreshing when players hit a home run, do a subtle bat flip and act like they’ve been there before. This is so much more tuff than doing jumping jacks and euro steps around the bases.

@b_miklasz @fangraphs It’s not “only” spring in my mind when it’s the same problems for 3+ years. At some point the cardinals have to realize who he is

I know it's "only" spring training. But so far #STLCards right fielder Jordan Walker has a 32% strikeout rate, and according to @fangraphs 80% of his batted balls in play are grounders or infield pops. His GB rate is 60%.

@RLindley88 @NolansFlow Cardinals literally did this with Walker. It doesn’t make it right, but it makes it plausible. No need to be an ass to OP

@NolansFlow 22 year old OF that’s never played above AA, currently succeeding at the plate, and you think he’ll break camp to start once a week instead of playing everyday in minors where he can continue to grow?😂😂

@BrewerSooner I can help you understand this. A team making playoffs is about the team wins. A team having a diamond player is about the skill level of the singular player. A team is comprised of more than one player.
