@PeterDiamandis The problem I have with this, and it's not one anyone alive today or anyone born in the near future will need to deal with. It will be the acceleration of the decline in human intelligence.

A humanoid robot will cost us $30K and works 24/7 for $0.40/hour. A solar panel generates electricity for 3 cents/kWh. What exactly is the argument that we CAN'T create abundance?

@GreeneElizabeth @PeterDiamandis The whole of human history tells me humans may well screw this up. Also, we won't be able to control superhuman AIs, so if they want to kill us they will.

@PeterDiamandis The strongest argument I have is "People are the reason that People can't have nice things." Nothing in my life experience leads me to believe that people won't screw this up. The people at the bottom will destroy it.

@PeterDiamandis It's possible in principle. But will the ruling class want normal people to have abundance? Will the AIs decide humans are in the way and kill us? Yes, a gloriously abundant future is possible, but it's very much not the only possibility.

@Evan_Rosenfeld If I was an American I cannot imagine supporting either the Republican or Democratic party, without having very deep misgivings about that party.

@Evan_Rosenfeld Is anything in politics based on principle? If you're a professional politician, either all your opinions happen to be whatever furthers your political career (unlikely) or you have to adjust your opinions according to pragmatism.

Democrats are trying to buy time on Israel by making Netanyahu the whole issue. It is a way to appease an increasingly radical part of their base without admitting how far that base has moved from even conditional support for the U.S.-Israel alliance.

@maddenifico No. The reason trump (or any other president) got elected was the electoral system, which prevents democracy. In 2016, if the voters had got what they wanted, Bernie Sanders would have won, because he was significantly more popular than Trump, Clinton or any other candidate.

I challenge any other modern democratic country to prove that their populace is dumber than America's. Y'all can't do it. The election of Trump, especially the second term, cements America as the dumbest modern nation in history.

Reminder: I was exposing the broken British system in 2009. Our Reform paper "Fit for Purpose?" called for ministers to appoint/remove senior officials and end the impartiality farce. The UK is a beautiful country that has fallen from its former glory. It has been declining for decades due to a complex mix of economic, cultural, and political factors. It's a bad place to be ambitious. But if you're not, then it's ok I guess.
