@JohnGerard5 @MerrynSW Yes that's exactly what I think, I want to steal it all to give to homeless heroin addicts. Wealth is not unlimited, every ledger has two sides. Putting assets into arrangements which make it nigh on impossible to tax them is pretty close to hoarding.

@poolhayes93 @MerrynSW Nobody is 'hoarding' wealth. Wealth is not finite. It is unlimited. You either have it or you don't. Nothing is stopping you from having it, Chris What, you think 'rich' people have warehouses with piles of gold coins in them that they dive into every day like Scrooge McDuck?

@Jam_mil73 @XManyrivers2 @MerrynSW Someone said another department did the macro thinking so I pointed out that clearly there was a blind spot with the macro thinking so this criticism is invalid. Go on, put together a video or article explaining why Gary is wrong and predict what will happen to the economy.

@poolhayes93 @XManyrivers2 @MerrynSW A blind man could tell you the banking system failed in 2008…a film did it even better. He’s terrible, until you realise how bad he actually is, then you’ll keep listening to this grifter.

@linmeitalks Individuals, tax upon receipt of income, over £50million liquid and illiquid assets combined, enforcement via the same means to enforce all other taxes i.e. evasion illegal. Glad to have helped.

Why are people like Gary so emotional and highly strung …. Chill out buddy and have a normal conversation. Such a good question which I think many don’t know how to answer. Do people want to heavily tax individuals or companies ? What does taxing the rich look like ? Who are the rich? Give me a figure of who that is? How much liquid cash or assets ? How would you enforce it ?

@poolhayes93 @PhilipJBerry @ThePosieParker There is no reason to protect it according to you. I think there are countless reasons to protect it. I’m sure you protecting it is selfish but demanding they give you some of their money isn’t selfish, huh?

@poolhayes93 @MerrynSW For one thing, and there are many others, he claims he pays 50% tax on his income giving the impression he pays 50% on all his income. I of course suspect he is doing that deliberately to mislead, but maybe not. But in any event, there is no 50% bracket..... 🤔

@HuntersofPutney @TOldbittie46750 @spamalotcamelot @MerrynSW It's been interesting today, seems to be something of a pile on against Gary (because of his backing of the Greens) but everyone is using just this one clip to attack. I've gone into bat for him but I've not recognised this type of attack on someone I support before.

@TOldbittie46750 @spamalotcamelot @MerrynSW @poolhayes93 I don’t disagree. But the point was that Gary’s understanding is as bad as his maths. Suggesting that the periodic charge is 0.6% annually vs a 60% income tax rate for him that doesn’t exist (at least not as described by him). This exchange here overdignifies his contribution.

@2x2pedaler @Scarletdotty @SecretVC2 @MerrynSW I'm mentioning his bonafides to address the criticism that he is economically illiterate. The tax system itself isn't producing fair outcomes which is the broader point and is what is causing his frustration in the clip but yes I know he doesn't come across well in this one.

@poolhayes93 @Scarletdotty @SecretVC2 @MerrynSW On the one hand you maintain his bonafides are impeccable and the plebs are not allowed to challenge his schtick. At the same time when he incorrectly describes the tax system to make his point you say we should just let it slide. I think the word for that is hypocrisy.

@andyp1599 @redhousepodcast @ThePosieParker No Andrew, basically what I'm saying is if I have £100 million and my neighbours can't afford to eat or heat their home then I agree I should pay significant sums in tax to avoid hoarding wealth and driving up asset prices.

@fergustp @spamalotcamelot @MerrynSW Fair comment. Albeit what people pay on their mortgages is normally greater than the value gained on property, which helps to keep them poor (I'm not a class warrior I'm just stating how I see the mechanics). Descendants insufficiently wealthy to them put inheritance in trust.

@poolhayes93 @spamalotcamelot @MerrynSW Your not sounding snarky just uneducated, most people who have homes expensive enough to pay IHT have a pension which is a compounding asset, how would you describe a home that’s compounded in value for 25 years?

@fergustp @SecretVC2 @spamalotcamelot @MerrynSW Because keeping for themselves alone creates a situation similar to what existed in Victorian times i.e. a small group of beu wealthy, happy people and a huge impoverished underclass. There is no system (yet known) where the super rich and the wealthy working man co-exist.

@DigitalLifeUK @ThePosieParker If company owned by shareholders, dividends are then root of where wealth that has been generated in the company then exists that system in order to make a rich person richer and that is where the tax needs to kick in. Companies can reduce tax by increasing wages.

@poolhayes93 @ThePosieParker If he has all them things how can he not understand taxing companies don't punish the owners, it will punish the workers at that company and the consumer... Then when call out on that he flips it to no tax the owners making the point that they will just leave that country.

@ukvillafan @ZackPolanski I would argue that past economic collapses teach us how piss poor many economists and their theories are; Gary recognises the current system will only lead to more wealth hoarding and ordinary people becoming poorer and poorer. We all see these with our own eyes everyday.

And there are lawyers on here who know fuck all about the law, despite their degrees and experience. So, if what you say is true, then he has either forgotten everything he ever learned on the subject or is willing to deliberately obfuscate and make absurd statements for political ends. Nothing in that video demonstrates competence or an understanding of taxation. He also constantly interrupts the other person’s points, a most obvious tactic of an incompetent bully who has to avoid hearing the other side because of the weakness of his own position.

@ukvillafan @ZackPolanski I agree that of all the mountains of hours of Gary speaking on-line this short clip is his worst moment as he gets worked up, raises his voice and speaks over the other person. You questioned his understanding of economic theory so I mentioned his qualifications.

@MerrynSW Out of interest, is there anyone else with Gary's qualifications and CV who you would refer to as economically illiterate? Particularly someone who is still correctly and consistently predicting economic outcomes year on year.

@FermiParadoxxed @ThePosieParker I mentioned his qualifications to counter accusations he knows nothing on the subject. His main credential is his real world successful career as a trader - he would agree with you on the limited value of the degree.

@poolhayes93 @ThePosieParker Possession of an Econ degree tbh is a great heuristic for identifying someone that’s more likely than not to be economically illiterate. Hoy take: lower taxes across the board, reduce wasteful spending on bloat/bullshit & reduce/simplify code complexity. Goes a long way
