I just left Costco and I feel like an idiot... The people in front of me bought $1,200 in top shelf alcohol, cases of redbull, and steaks. They split it up and paid for the steaks and redbull with EBT, and then pulled out a giant wad of $100 bills to pay for the alcohol in cash. WTF am I doing with my life??? I haven't bought steak in years - I haven't bought alcohol in decades. Too expensive. On the rare occasion we eat out, I buy the cheapest thing on the menu. Yet these people can just casually drop thousands of dollars of my tax money on things I can't even afford?? Just to drive home to a taxpayer funded house nicer than I live in. We are completely destroyed as a society.

Against my better judgement, I went and bought my kids, Dunkin Donuts. First off - Duck Donuts is better, but this was on the way. An interesting thing happened in the drive thru. As I was paying the young man taking my order asked, “How much did you pay for your car?” It’s an interesting question and one that I don’t usually get asked, so I answered him. I was expecting him to ask me what I do for a living in order to afford that type of car, but he never asked. He’s young, and I get that, but when I was his age (late teens, early 20s) I did my best to find out the path someone took to get them in the position I saw them in. I think as a society we’ve lost that curiosity. But, I could be wrong and the guy really liked my car. 🤷🏽‍♂️

In November 2019, I ran into Senator Lindsey Graham in the Capitol Rotunda while I was giving a speech during a demonstration for clean water. Although we stood on opposite sides of the political spectrum at the time, he invited me into his office and made me a cup of coffee. Garaged every day, looked like it just came off the showroom floor, never so much as a potato chip inside. 170k miles. He just traded it into the dealership…. For $5,000 He visited me 4 weeks ago, he knows I drive a 2001 Tacoma with 300k miles on it. I would’ve given him $10k. He didn’t even think to ask if I wanted it. Called me up all proud of the deal he made, said “I bet I could’ve gotten 7k for the truck but it wasn’t worth the hassle.” The dealership will sell it for $18k and I’m still driving the Tacoma.
