He built what was supposed to be a functional prototype but instead shared a video of the non-working prototype, which was simply rolled downhill by gravity after being towed uphill—with the camera angle hiding the slope to fake motion. He collected hundreds of millions in investments, which were subsequently worthless to working-class investors. He was, of course, indicted and convicted. He was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay restitution in the hundreds of millions of dollars… …until Donald Trump pardoned him. But why did Trump pardon a known scam artist? It could be because of his multimillion-dollar donations to the Trump campaign, or maybe the fact that he hired Pam Bondi’s brother as his attorney. Now, not only did he serve very little (if any) jail time, but he also doesn’t have to pay back the money he scammed. ALSO, he just launched a new startup—with no working product—again.

This is getting absurd. Hundreds of stations across the U.S. are tying or breaking monthly high temperature records on March 20 — not just daily records. Monthly records. And this isn’t a one-day fluke. This has been happening for days on end. We’re not talking about “nice spring warmth.” 
We’re talking about temperatures that historically don’t occur until late April or May — showing up in mid-March. At some point, you have to drop the mental gymnastics: 👉 This is what a shifted climate baseline looks like.
👉 This is what happens when the dice are loaded. Call it what it is — extraordinary, persistent, and entirely consistent with a rapidly warming world.

@1RonanConnolly @orwell2022 computed GHCN v4 raw and adjusted temp results for: 1) Orwell's most rural BU classification bin 2) Satellite night light brightness index (BI) = 0 3) All stations. The differences are minor. Adjustments have a modest impact, and UHI has only a very small impact.

If you're interested in digging into the temperature data that groups like NOAA & NASA use for claiming "this year was the hottest on record", @orwell2022 has a useful tool in this thread. The full GHCN version 4 dataset has about 20,000 stations (40% in US). But, most are short or have large data gaps. That's not so good if you want to study long-term trends. Instead, this tool looks at all stations that have 100 years of data and at least 9 valid months per year (about 500 in all - mostly northern hemisphere). It also shows how urbanized they are. This is important because urban stations will have experienced localized warming from the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. In the thread below, he provides some basic tips & comments to get you started. Orwell2022's results allegedly showing excessive urban warming vs rural are caused solely by his inability to correctly calculate large-scale avg temps from station data.
