ESN Report
ESN Report@ES_News_·
On 13 June 2024, PC Rhona Adams was sent alone to a high-risk missing person report. The woman in question had made threats to end her life by setting herself on fire. What PC Adams walked into was far worse than anyone could have predicted. 💙 A busy fast-food restaurant, packed with families and children. A disabled toilet. Flames. Inside, the woman had already carried out her threat...she was on fire. Without a second’s thought for her own safety, PC Adams ran straight in. No flame-retardant protective gear. No fire blanket. Just instinct. She launched herself at the woman and began smothering the flames with her bare hands. She didn’t pause. She didn’t wait for backup. She made the kind of split-second decision that defines the difference between tragedy and survival. Then, thinking fast, she got a staff member to bring a fire extinguisher. Calmly, and under immense pressure, she doused the remaining flames, stopping the fire from spreading and preventing what could have been a catastrophic mass-casualty incident. All of this, while still comforting the woman, radioing for an ambulance, and staying focused as families sat just metres away, in complete shock. The woman survived, suffering first and second-degree burns. Without PC Adams’ actions, the outcome could have been fatal...not just for her, but for anyone else caught in the fire. PC Adams has now been nominated for the National Police Bravery Awards 2025, and it’s not hard to see why. Whether you support the police or not, this story should move you. This is human bravery. Compassion. Selflessness. This is what policing is at its best. If this story has struck a chord with you, share it. Remind people of what our emergency workers face — and what they’re willing to risk — to protect complete strangers. What to hear about more stories like this? We’d like to share a message with you. Following the tragic events that deeply affected us all over the summer, and the sentencing last week, we feel now is the right time to say: thank you to the amazing people of Southport, Merseyside and beyond. We will continue to be there for you as we move forward as a community. We are working hard to keep the area we so proudly serve a safe place to be. Despite us all being rocked by the events that took place last summer, we remain strong, united and we stand together. Please take a moment to watch this video and hear about how the police and community have supported each other in this toughest of times. As always, our thoughts remain with the families of Alice, Bebe and Elsie, as well as everyone involved in and affected by the tragic events of 29th July.

Today, Axel Rudakubana has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 52-years for his cowardly and terrifying attack on the young girls and adults at Hart Space on 29th July 2024. We want to pay tribute to Bebe, Elsie and Alice, who will never be forgotten, and the children and adults who suffered serious injuries, and those young victims who were severely traumatised by what they witnessed on that day. Although no outcome at court could possibly ease the pain and trauma for the victims and their families, we hope that knowing he will now spend a considerable amount of time in prison will bring them some comfort.

We are aware of social media posts online detailing the injuries sustained by the girls who died and those injured in the attack in Southport on 29 July 2024. The families of the little girls specifically asked that those details not be reported. The families of Bebe, Alice and Elsie and of all those affected in the tragedy have faced unimaginable grief and trauma in the months since the attacks, and do not need their suffering compounded by reckless posts on social media. Please do not post or share detailed accounts of the injuries they sustained. Thank you.

With heavy rain, standing water and flooding disrupting roads across Gloucestershire, we’re advising motorists to only travel if it is absolutely necessary. There's more heavy rainfall forecast across the county tonight and over the weekend so please take care and keep safe.
